Nice to see how much research has gone into the design. Shows a real professional approach.

Re: ShadowMan!
I dropped off a printed out package at my local comic store today that had the cover image and a few pages of art for the upcoming shadowman book. While I was there the owner and I showed it to a few transient Valiant fans (regulars having picked up their books already for the most part). We got really great responses and excited replies. One of them bought a Bloodshot #1 which he had not gotten yet (4 left on the shelf out of 100+ copies). I left the package as a preview so the owner could continue to show it around and drum up interest. I think Valiant should look into sending retailers this sort of thing.
On a side note - it looks like I will be opening up and comic shop in Shirley, NY in mid September. I am excited that I get to have Shadowman be the first number 1 issue I will be carrying in my store. This store has been a dream of mine for 20+ years and I'm super excited to get to jump into it in a market where Valiant is so present.

That's super Awesome! What a great idea, showing the ShadowMan art around. I used to sell comics in the 90's at a flea market, but always wished (and still do) to have my own store! I wish you well!Helios wrote:I dropped off a printed out package at my local comic store today that had the cover image and a few pages of art for the upcoming shadowman book. Been to Shirley a zillion times, my brother-in-law's from Mastic and I attended Longwood HS. Is the Golden Memories shop still out that way (on Montauk Highway, was it?)Helios wrote:On a side note - it looks like I will be opening up and comic shop in Shirley, NY in mid September.
Anyway, congrats on the store!

If you want to get your name in front of a lot of comic buying kids and local area residents, run an ad in every school musical/chorus/band recital playbill. It costs like $50 and you will be in front of tons of kids (who will be graduating in a few years and have money to spend). Marketing is 65% of success; another lesson I learned the hard way.
Oh, and look into a Google Adwords Express campaign. PM me if you have questions.

Re: ShadowMan!
Thanks for all the well-wishing! I am excited to move deeper into the industry that has consumed most of my waking thoughts for the past 25 + years. Valiant's top-quality products and the industry's fantastic reception of them were what finally convinced me it was time to act. Also the store in that area closed up about 10 months ago leaving the entire east end of Suffolk county without a dedicated comics shop. I'll be naming my store At
mic Comics in homage to Solar (also it rhymes).

That's a great name for your shop - good luck with it! I used to want to open my own comic shop when I was a teenager. I used to draw pictures of store layouts and made up a business card too,Helios wrote:Thanks for all the well-wishing! I still hold to a dream of publishing my own comic at some point instead.

Not sure if that's a trademark issue (or only a regional situation), but Atomic Comics brings up lots of comic shop matches on Google already.Helios wrote:I'll be naming my store Atmic Comics in homage to Solar (also it rhymes).

Since no one has talked enough ShadowMan for my tastes in the last 72 hours, here's another interview with Patch and JJ, with even more beautiful preview pages...hmmm, that mask looks familiar...

The Garth Ennis love, and the ignoring of Bob Hall makes me worried that every fear I had regarding a Shadowman relaunch will come true.

Re: ShadowMan!
Garth Ennis did Shadowman? Half way kidding. That must've been VH2. Are there any board members that think the VH2 Shadowman was an improvement? So far I have held off on reading VH2. I was too in love with the first Valiant universe. VEI is doing a GREAT job so far though, so I'll hold on to hope that this new Shadowman will kick *SQUEE*, just like the new Bloodshot, XO, and Harbinger already are.Heath wrote:The Garth Ennis love, and the ignoring of Bob Hall makes me worried that every fear I had regarding a Shadowman relaunch will come true.

Re: ShadowMan!
My guess is that most people liked the Acclaim Shadowman at the end of the run 16-20, and the third set, Shadowman 1-6. Both were very good. Ennis's Shadowman was the very beginning, and in my mind, a hot mess.Carson wrote:Garth Ennis did Shadowman? Half way kidding. That must've been VH2. Also, showing love for Garth Ennis doesn't mean that is Jordan's favorite or preferred version of Shadowman. If I say I am a huge fan of Johnathan Hickman's, does that mean I think his version of Nick Fury was the best? Because I don't.kevinbastos wrote:My guess is that most people liked the Acclaim Shadowman at the end of the run 16-20, and the third set, Shadowman 1-6. Both were very good. Garth Ennis's run on ShadowMan only accomplished *SQUEE* me off, especially the way he brought back Jack Boniface and then took a giant steaming dump on his rotting chest and then called it a story.BugsySig wrote:Also, showing love for Garth Ennis doesn't mean that is Jordan's favorite or preferred version of Shadowman. Ditto. *SQUEE* me off so much that, still to this day, the mere mention of Acclaim's version of Shadowman makes me angry. I don't care how good the later issues might otherwise be, they were built upon the steaming pile of crap that Ennis wrote and are therefore crap as well.MarrowMan wrote:Garth Ennis's run on ShadowMan only accomplished *SQUEE* me off, especially the way he brought back Jack Boniface and then took a giant steaming dump on his rotting chest and then called it a story.

Re: ShadowMan!
Since two different interviews have mentioned it...
This interview says "magic and mysticism" aren't what people are expecting... and another interview mentioned Arthur C. Clarke.
That tells me that they're referencing: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." -Arthur C. Clarke
SO...
Master Darque and Shadowman are not using "magic"... they've tapped into an advanced technology.
Archer & Armstrong pages have shown us "the Boon" from "the faraway" that destroys life on Earth.
Now... where in the Valiant universe would these "magical" advanced technologies have come from? The Vine!
