My only concern is that the Acclaim Comics version might be the more well known, due to the PS1 and PS2 games, and so they might borrow heavily from that take on the character.

Either way, this is one of the most exciting teaser images released this year. :D
This is one of the few characters who may warrant taking from the Acclaim run. I still want Jack and the mask, but there was some solid stuff in Volume 3 worth mining in a new series.
I agree. Mike LeRoi's version is well worth bringing back. No reason why they can't have multiple incarnations.

I'd be very happy if this were an amalgamation of all the different takes, honestly. Each incarnation had its own strengths and weaknesses; the ingredients are there for something truly excellent.

I'm not sure how well a blend would go over. I think they would be wasting a neat opportunity if they only have one Shadowman.

Maybe a ShadowMen? Think about a different "zombie" walking in the colors each appearance? (Nettie always was a good manipulator).

I like how the original Shadowman logo seems to printed (or tattooed?) on his chest in the teaser image. It's a nice detail that I didn't noticed the first time.

One of Valiant's most popular titles in the 1990s, "Shadowman" went through a number of incarnations with a roster of incredible creators including Jim Shooter, Steve Englehart, David Lapham, Garth Ennis, Ashley Wood, Charlie Adlard, Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning and more.
No mention of Bob Hall? The only person to ever get Shadowman right??

It kind of looks like in this page that he "transforms" into Shadowman, Why does she cry? Is that a vine baby in her belly?

Originally posted in the General Discussion Forum, but decided it would be better to put here:
I was about to post a bunch of thoughts, but in the time it took me to finish the article, they had almost all been covered.

1) I agree the bald guy may be Jack's father or another relative. The costume changes from those pages to the cover seem to reflect that (though I kind of prefer the possible "past" Shadowman look...even with the trench coat :D ). Also, the transformation was well done and very creepy...could be a connection to a specific Voodoo spirit like Legba, etc.

2) Jack has an "interest in music"...This may be Valiant playing coy with how they will establish Jack. So he's not a jazz musician, but could he be a producer or a DJ...both would be more modern in their approach.

3) DARQUE!!!! Holy *SQUEE*, he looks amazing.

4) Zircher is super talented and is a GREAT addition for VEI. I have said for a few months that he was my ideal pick to draw Shadowman.

5) I have not read Luther Strode, but I have read reviews which have all been excellent. VEI snagging a talented young writer to add to their stable is impressive.

6) Black out cover!?! AWESOME! Pull-box Black out cover? Awesome sauce.

I'm guessing that's Jack's parents... and baby Jack inside.
(Whether he's a vine baby... :? )

Seems to be a "nightmare" type of villain... not sure how/if he is in "the world outside our window".

I kid you not, my wife & I just got a new kitty this week, and last night we were trying to pick a name... 'Mr. Twist' came up as we were also thinking of calling him Oliver...

Now I'm not so sure I haven't been influenced to call him Mr Twist because he is really a 'nightmare' villian straight out of the VEI universe... how's THAT for 'world outside your window'? :o :P

Gotta say I love the look of that scythe that 'bald' Shadowman is using.

If you guys get a chance to pick up Luther Strode in TPB or singles I recommend it. Great story and art. Jordan and Zircher should be a great team so i'll have this and the Legend of Luther Strode to look forward to later this year.

Here is the text from the solicit at iFanboy:
There’s a million dreams in the Big Easy. But now its worst nightmare is about to come true. As the forces of darkness prepare to claim New Orleans as their own, Jack Boniface must embrace the legacy he was born to uphold. As Shadowman, Jack is about to become to only thing that stands between his city and an army of unspeakable monstrosities from beyond the night. But is the mantle of Shadowman a blessing or a curse? And what is the true cost of his otherworldly power?
That would seem to confirm Jack is a legacy hero. Whether the bald guy is his dad or not remains to be seen, but appears likely.

Geek: Of all of the early Valiant heroes, in spite of the supernatural elements around him, Jack was still a very street level kind of character. To what extent will the new Shadowman embody that?

Zircher: Less street. Even in his appearance we've moved away from a leather jacket for a costume.

Geek: Jack Boniface was also a really idiosyncratic character at the time--a jazz saxophonist who really would have rather not bothered with the whole dark vigilante thing. Are you looking to bring back some of that ambivalence to the character?

Zircher: Not quite.
These things make me sad. I loved the leather-jacket wearing, street smart, manic, crazy, wild, unbalanced, frenzied energy of Bob Hall's Shadowman. I loved that he didn't really want to be Shadowman, but when night came the urge was just too great. I will miss those aspects.

I must not fear change. I must not fear change. I must not fear change. I must not fear change...
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.
