When Valiant first announced their re-launch they said there would be 4 titles. So did they change their mind, pull the wool over our eyes, or is Shadowman just going to make an appearance in one of the existing books like EW?

They also said two more books within a year, and up to 15-18 titles eventually.

At first, I hated the image. Then when I saw it in higher detail, I noticed that what looked like facepaint was an update on the classic mask.

Suddenly, with the mask involved, this has a lot more intrigue for me. I'd love it if being Shadowman were a curse...

But seriously... I'm a little scared of how much they are going to change his origin and details now... Sax? No sax? Jazz? No jazz?

I could get behind the new shadowman being in a gothic industrial or heavy rock band as lead guitarist though...

Looking at that picture I can just hear the entire "the crow" movie soundtrack playing... And see him shreding on an electric guitar on a rooftop in the dark of night...

You may be onto something there, Aram! I kinda like the idea of updating his musical background to a different genre - just the fact he is a musician is almost enough of a link to the original character for me.

And I'm more disappointed that he doesn't have long hair than I am about his shadow logo not being in the center of his chest.

I have no ties to the idea that he has to have long curly hair to be Jack... I think this version looks much better. I will say that the more I look at it, the more I am not so sure I like the logo off center like that. It feels out of place. I like the size of it, but perhaps it would look a tad better if it were still centered? Everything else about the outfit is fairly symmetrical [unless as others have mentioned those EW style patterns on his right arm are just on the one side].

Maybe it's the fact that he is the first character in the new VEI to have a superhero-ish logo on a costume that feels out of place? [I don't count the Harbinger 'Bird' logo because that is more of a corporate logo on uniforms, that makes sense within the story and is realistic]. Don't get me wrong, I love that classic Shadowman logo a LOT. Just something *NOOGIES* my brain about it and I can't put my finger directly on what it is...

They have also said after the initial 4 titles that there would be 1 more before the end of the year, and another by spring 2013.

Well that ain't Jack. It would be cool though if the title was called Shadowmen and there are a few of them running around including Jack. That way you could still have the new Orleans and jazz thing going on but you could wrap it more onto the new universe.

I'm hoping for something along those lines as well.

Not sure if I like the new look or not. Have to see more.

Mask looks kind of purple on my screen .... deeper blue and then I love it With this color scheme, I'm disliking the Shadowman logo a little less. Though I still think it should be in the middle or I wouldn't even be opposed to it going away completely. Though I do love the logo itself still.

Yeah, I'm actually not very happy with it the more I look at it. But I only had Gimp and I hate using Gimp. I just can't get used to using it and can't find the filters and stuff that I got used to with Paint Shop Pro. A lot of the highlighting is all wrong. The color of the mask didn't quite come out like I wanted (although I'm not seeing purple). It was a rush job so I didn't put any details into the gloves and belt and pouches.

Heath, I like your pic. No purple on the mask that I can see, it's a great shade of blue. Your colour choices are helping to sell the new design IMHO. I also really like that you made the stripes on the arms & legs the same shade as the rest of the body suit.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I love that Shadowman is coming back, but I don't think I like his look. Maybe I'll like it more when other images come out, but right now it really does look like something straight out of Youngblood and that is not cool at all. I'm very anxious to see how they manage to blend him in with the rest of the universe, though... it should be interesting.

Liefeld's pouches are terrible... just like all the other crappy elements he uses in his character design (Jeez, how could DC have let him get his hands on Deathstroke?! GAH!!)

But let's be fair, here - the Shadowman design has a modest pair only. Nothing wrong with that, and I don't think it's very Liefeld-esque.
