It is interesting that the X-O #1 second printing prices on Ebay (for regular auctions, not Buy-It-Now) have been almost identical to the 1:20 variants.
Neither the "supply" or the "demand" for second printing could have been predicted to match 1:20 variants, but it's looking like both have matched pretty closely.

Under 1,000 "earned" as a 1:20... the print run is always going to be as many as Valiant wanted to make.caniac wrote:XO#2 1:20 is under 1000...at least as Greg has it now

I was wondering about that. It seemed like Valiant had a lot of variants at the panel, so I wondered if they had to print 1 for every 20 and 1 for every 50 or if that just indicated how many you had to buy to earn it.greg wrote:Under 1,000 "earned" as a 1:20... the print run is always going to be as many as Valiant wanted to make.caniac wrote:XO#2 1:20 is under 1000...at least as Greg has it now

Seriously though, didn't even think about that. Would that be false advertising though

I was thinking the extras they had were from shops not ordering 20 or 50 books too (two shops that ordered 10 each would leave a 1:20 for VEI to use at will)etos45 wrote:I was wondering about that. They probably printed at least 45,000 copies worth (in ratio) in order to guarantee they could meet the maximum possible earned number based on the number they were printing.etos45 wrote:I was wondering about that. I would think that they would make the maximum based off final orders from Diamond, and then print the maximum the ratio would allow. Certainly not all variants would go out, and Valiant would then likely provide some as replacements for damages and some for future giveaways or an employee bonus.BugsySig wrote:They probably printed at least 45,000 copies worth (in ratio) in order to guarantee they could meet the maximum possible earned number based on the number they were printing.etos45 wrote:I was wondering about that. Do you have a link for the 1,449? It doesn't make any sense that they'd go back to print for that few copies.

Side note on this is that Valiant held the number 3 and 4 spots in non-Marvel/DC titles for the month. Excellent stuff.

Not really. The second print was done BEFORE the sell out and was simply a guess based on the orders they had and talking to retailers. The third print is really more like a second print which is based on new orders after the sell out at Diamond.400yrs wrote:Aram wrote:Probably won't be many... comicchron is reporting only 1449 sold... which very well could put it at rarer than any 1:20 to date! Yeah, I understand that, but what I'm saying is that at 1500 copies, why bother? I don't think I've seen a second print that low from most of the larger publishers.

I think Diamond has a lot to do with the number.400yrs wrote:Yeah, I understand that, but what I'm saying is that at 1500 copies, why bother? I don't think I've seen a second print that low from most of the larger publishers.
For the larger publishers, they probably request 5% to 10% in the second prints.
For smaller publishers, it could be half that ratio.

I think it was done just to say they had a second printing and get the positive PR for the launch. The reason it was so low, IMHO, is that VEI didn't think they would make it to a third print and XO ended up exceeded their expectations.400yrs wrote:BugsySig wrote:Not really. Hell, the latest Saga #1 printing (5th) was over 4K. 1.5K for a print is tiny. At that number, I'm glad I was able to find a few of them and I think I'll be upping the price on the one I have on ebay after seeing that low number.

I went hunting for this issue a couple weeks back. Tried five area comic shops and no luck. Agree that it might as well have been a variant cover, especially since it is most representative of the actual issue.

I think 3rd print will only be a bit over 3k which I wouldn't be surpised at another sellout. Doubtful it will be anywhere near as expensive and certainly not as rare, but I wouldnt be surprised to see it flipping for 5-$10 on ebay within the first 2 weeks.

I ended up getting a copy off ebay for $16 shipped (I knew the price would come down from $30 a bit) as I didn't have a copy, then I snagged 3 at my LCS for cover minus the 10% pull-list discount.

Fred pointed out that they loss money on multiple printings, the low print run on them means they don't make anything on publishing them. It's the fact they are making multiple print runs and the comic community is talking about it. X-O is relevant again and so is Valiant.

That is a very good point. Printers usually require a minimum amount of books to print or they charge more $ per book for minimum print runs
If Valiant prints small numbers, the higher price point each copy will cost.
