Great Great Read! One thing though, Shadowman & Ninjak movies in the works after BloodShot, Harbinger and Archer & Armstrong? One would think X-O Manowar would be possibly the best movie they got besides BloodShot. Just imagine! Or maybe they are holding out till they make money off the other movies because X-O seems like i'd cost bookoo loot to make if done right!

In case a few people didn't read it yet...or may have glossed over it...I believe they said :atomic: SHADOWMAN :atomic: was in film development!

5 movies in development...awesome. Also didn't know the background of all those board members, which bodes well for future films. I know some would say they don't want Valiant to jump into a saturated superhero movie market and risk failure, but just look at what it has done for not only Marvel, but indies like TWD, Hellboy, RED, etc. And if they can just have success with the first one they develop, studios will keep coming back to the Valiant well for more.

Personally I would love a Harbinger TV series on a cable network. A real "adult" superhero show so as not to get passed over as a Heroes "ripoff".

XO not being mentioned for development is probably a combination of the high cost of a sci fi epic like that and the similarities to Iron Man. But aBloodshot shoot-em-up/horror/sci-fi film? An Archer and Armstrong buddy adventure/comedy? Sign me up :thumb:

Acclaim filed for bankruptcy protection in 2005, and, two years later, a group of investors — led by two comics enthusiasts who were still in college, Jason Kothari and Mr. Shamdasani — snapped up the Valiant library for a few hundred thousand dollars.
Is any of this right?

I love the talk about the movie deals, I just wonder how much control Valiant will have and if they'll interconnect like the Marvel movies.

I am not entirely certain that the timeline of the Acclaim bankruptcy and acquisition of the Valiant library is 100% accurate tho. :idontknow:

I thought their bid for the library (initially the 2nd place bid) was closer to a million rather than a "few hundred thousand dollars"

That would count as a few hundred thousand...and makes it seem like they got a steal on properties that once sold for $65 million.

Exciting stuff.

You'd think X-O would be the most natural and easiest fit for a movie. Perhaps they're holding off and waiting until they get in a groove, movie-wise.

Exactly. :thumb:

The first Spider-man movie came after Blade and X-Men. You don't "ramp up" by doing the best first. Solid first, blockbuster later.

Agreed that it was a steal. The potential for these characters is unlimited. I'd imagine fighting out the trademark dispute wasn't cheap.
I am glad Dinesh and Co. were willing & able to fight it out were able to bring back Valiant!

I thought the Acclaim bankruptcy was closer to 2002 and the auction was around 2005, but I might be wrong.

Either way, all of this is very exciting news for Valiant. I just hope it all works out with the movies. Ninjak seems like such a risky move.

Bankruptcy started on September 1, 2004. I believe it was sometime in 2005 or 2006 that VEI was able to purchase the rights from the bankruptcy proceedings and then it took another 1-2 years to battle out the rights in court, the moment they were in the clear is when they started publishing the first 3 hardback collections in 2007 & 2008.

This was at the bottom of the online article.

"A version of this article appeared in print on July 9, 2012, on page B1 of the New York edition with the headline: In the Footsteps of Marvel."

So its today's New York Times
