Re: Marvel Now
I don't like what I'm reading. So basically Marvel is just going to start some of the titles over at #1 but keep all of the messed up continuity? Didn't they try this once only to pick up the old numbering?

Lame. Marvel does this to most of it's titles every year or 2 anyway, just happens all at once now?

Re: Marvel Now
again with new #1's ?? A whole bunch of titles just got new #1's in the past year (Uncanny, Daredevil, Punisher, Captain America, etc. and a few WENT back to old Numbering, or continued old numbering; Wolverine, Fantastic Four) Since I began reading Marvel (1982 give or take) This has happened way too many times! It's hard to keep track of wtf is what. they wont be happy till there's 90 volumes of Uncanny, wolverine, avengers, and spider-man.
Well, at least Rob Liefeld won't be drawing any of it at least.

The guy who does Iron Man also really sucks balls. Tony always looks like Sawyer from Lost. (another tracer)
Did any of these guys actually go to art school?

Marvel may end up doing better as a sequence of movies and tv shows rather than books. Especially given how they treat loyal readers.

These are the same comments I remember reading when DC announced the "new DCU" and if I remember corrected DC gained market share with their #1 & #2 issues.
I also said I was done with DC and then bought a bunch of their "new DCU" books. Only time will tell about how this will really effect their company.

I have Battered Marvel Fan syndrome. Everytime they put out a new press release, I flinch.xodacia81 wrote:Marvel may end up doing better as a sequence of movies and tv shows rather than books. Especially given how they treat loyal readers.
They just announced a new limited series Thanos, Son of Titan. They said it is going to fill in a lot of Thanos' story before Iron Man 55 and then compared him to Marvel's Darth Vader. That connection to Darth Vader really sums up how I feel about this 5 issue limited series. Darth Vader was once one of the definitive villains in fiction and then they decided to make some movies about his origin story and we get Attack of the Clones and the lovable Jar Jar Binks. Now they are going to give Thanos his Phantom Menace! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

Re: Marvel Now
The only thing I get from Marvel are the Spider-Man books just to keep my run in tact. I don't really care for anything they have been/are doing anymore. I'll always get any Moon Knight or She-Hulk books also, but I'm pretty sure I'm never trying anything new at Marvel going forward.

Re: Marvel Now
This is exactly the problem I have with the whole idea - trying to gain market share with #1's #2's... Marvel is by far worse than DC for randomly re-launching titles over the last number of years, just to gain market share. But it ends up feeling like a slap in the face, as if I am some kind of ADD kid who's gonna keep lapping up whatever new #1 comes off the presses, but then forget I just did that last week when the title gets yet another new #1 this week [I'm exaggerating, obviously]. Eventually even the youngest fans who don't currently have a sense of the long history of the Marvel U or care much about volume editions and high issue # counts, will see the trend for what it is - a cash grab. And they'll get sick of it too, probably...caxiotis wrote:These are the same comments I remember reading when DC announced the "new DCU" and if I remember corrected DC gained market share with their #1 & #2 issues.

I wasn't interested in the DC relaunch - I was only reading Doom Patrol when the big move came. But I respected them for having the balls to start the entire line from scratch, continuity and all. I tried out a few new titles, then trimmed it down to what I felt was the best of the best [Animal Man & Swamp Thing]. This 'Marvel Now' idea doesn't hold a candle to that, its just feels like more of the same knee-deep garbage they've been expecting fans to wade through for how many years now?
meh.
I hate to sound crabby about it all, but meh.
Ultimately it's just very disappointing to me - as I've mentioned before, I love the marvel u.

This announcement gave me relaunch fatigue before reading any of the titles.
So Marvel is taking their most tiresome of gimmicks and making it an official event. Yeah...

Re: Marvel Now
I bought into the DC relaunch because it was a chance to get into new interpretations of old characters without all the baggage of preexisting continuity, and as my signature shows I'm still reading a few of those titles. However, I won't be buying any of these new Marvel titles because there is not going to be any changes to their universe or any real changes to their creative teams, whose output I really haven't enjoyed since Civil War and House of M ended. I will still continue to buy classic Marvel collections but so long as Bendis and Fraction continue to guide the creative direction of the company I have no interest in it. The last time Marvel made really compelling stuff IMHO was in the early 2000s and Bill Jemas was EIC.

Re: Marvel Now
Marvel relaunches titles once a week as is, so what's the difference? Last year they "reorganized" their XBooks only to launch a new X title a few months later. They "relaunched" the Avengers Franchise at least three times already since Disassembled. And wasn't this what the Ultimate Universe was for ten years ago? Oh wait, that was already rebooted as Ultimate Comics. But wait, wasn't there something called Heroes Reborn about twenty years ago? All that is old is new again, I guess.
All that being said, I am sure this will be a huge sales success for Marvel...for a few months, just like the New 52, then back to the same sales levels as before. I suppose having 45% of the market just isn't enough any more.
I can't even begin to describe what trash this is...but that's no surprise considering the garbage Marvel has been putting out for the past few years. They cancel every critically acclaimed book they published, and don't even get me started on the new Defenders series...
Sorry, end of
