Secret Weapons as Eventual 8th Title?
I know everyone has their favorites, like HARD Corps or PsiLords, but I think Secret Weapons could be a good choice for an eventual 8th VALIANT title.
After the initial 4 launches we are likely to see Eternal Warrior and Rai, and inevitably a Shadowman series. Secret Weapons could serve as a "traditional" team book, and a place for great characters who may not be able to carry a regular series. Characters like Ninjak and Dr. Mirage, or the Harbingers Livewire and Stronghold (We already know Ninjak will be working for the Weaponeers).
It could even spin-off into different solo miniseries (Secret Weapons: Ninjak or Secret Weapons: Dr. Mirage have a nice ring to them).
Just a thought...anyone else?

A group title could be cool. I hope that they work out a good reason for them to team up, especially since some characters don't really seem to mesh.

I figure more of the govt/privately sponsored group. Maybe something like SyFy's Alphas where they are essentially blackmailed, coerced or otherwise tricked into joining. A group that doesn't necessarily get along, but works together because of circumstance.Rubiks-Q-Bert wrote:Super villain of epic proportions! My guess if they do Secret Weapons it'll be totally fifteenth than what the title was like before. I would think that we would see a new, original title before Secret Weapons.

2012
1] X-O
2] Harbinger
3] Bloodshot
4] A&A
2013
1] Eternal Warrior
2] Rai
3] Ninjak [must be very dark. Think a Darker Dark Knight with a sword]
4] Hard Corps [OG team w/ Maniac that is totally off his rocker]
2014
1] Shadowman [need to keep a big title for the 3rd year]
2] Dr. Mirage [keep this light hearted.
3] Timewalker [lays down basis for future timeline books]
4] Armorines
5] Q&W
2015 [after 4 years GK makes its way back home making big news!]
1] Solar
2] Magnus [start of future timeline]
3] Turok
4] Secret Weapons [continues one team title per year]
2016
1] PSI-lords [continues future timeline]
2] Geomancer [I like a past timeline here, with EW and Rai tying in]
I also expect 1-2 new titles in there and this would make for an exciting next 4+ years
I posted this awhile back. I think it will be awhile before a Secret Weapons title comes back

An original title might also be fun... I've only seen two pages of him, but I'm pretty sure I'd read a book titled "The Bleeding Monk" by Valiant.

Funny you should mention it, I just finished reading the first 3 issues of Secret Weapons tonight. I enjoyed it more than I had remembered.
IMO, Valiant needs new titles moreso than to keep resurrecting old ones. I would love to see something original and new.

Team book sounds fine, but why Secret Weapons? I think a new name is in order. SW carries no significance.

Been reading SW over the last year. IMHO, painful. 'Killing' the characters was the first thing that gave them life. The second ten-eleven are better.

I agree. The name was silly and the series was pretty bad. If they are going to eventually do a team book, I would rather see them start from scratch.Ross2 wrote:Team book sounds fine, but why Secret Weapons? I think a new name is in order. SW carries no significance.

My last read was straight through each title. I found it tough in a lot of ways.IanAlexavier wrote:I just read through my bound edition and I have to admit.. it wasnt 'great'. Reading through chronologically on publication has been refreshing. Even when some things are bad, there seems to be something to look forward to.
Of course, I haven't made it to Birthquake yet.
Sorry about this

I would, as well... But most of what I read of them in Secret Weapons was mishandled. Badly. I liked them in Harbinger - the Stronghold using the mass from a person... forget his name now... particularly great comic.
Again well-used when Harada realized what had been done to them.

Re: Secret Weapons as Eventual 8th Title?
Man, you guys are harsh... like the name "Secret Weapons"
...if it is properly tied to the concept, of course. I know the book kind of stunk, but so did almost everything post-Unity. I mean, Bloodshot was hardly "The Dark Knight Returns" but I like the new concept and it may be the book I am most looking forward to reading. Like any book, if the concept, art and writing are solid, that is what matters.
A new name would be fine too...I just like the idea of a team book where characters (old and new) could get a chance to shine who their wise might not be able to carry a solo title and be spotlighted.

I had the same problem. I was rereading everything... and it was going great up until SW... then it got so bad that I lost steam and haven't picked it back up yet. That was months ago.IanAlexavier wrote:I just read through my bound edition and I have to admit.. it wasnt 'great'. I'm doing it the same way, by release date. And I have to say, I'm really enjoying it.kevinbastos wrote:Reading through chronologically on publication has been refreshing. Even when some things are bad, there seems to be something to look forward to.

The Malev War, f'rinstance. Back when I read it the first time, I was really PO'd about the Rai change and it colored my attitude about the entire affair.
But this time, it's just fantastic; Ostrander is an amazing writer. There are so many factions at play, so much intrigue, conflicts within the group, mystery, a love triangle, freewill Malevs, surprises... it's just amazing. Once my prejudices were set aside I can see it for the truly wonderful story arc it is. And that's greatly helped by having read everything else just prior.

Yeah, the Malev War stuff reads pretty well today. Secret Weapons just sucks altogether. Same with Ninjak. Bloodshot has very little that is interesting.

I always thought Bloodshot was better as a "special guest" star in another title. I liked him in EW, HC, and some in SW. There was very little of his own title that I liked. Its not that I disliked it, it just didnt do much for me

I always liked Bloodshot. For me, I thought the early SW was actually the more entertaining part of the series.

Re: Secret Weapons as Eventual 8th Title?
EW, RAI & Shadowman gotta be the next 3 titles to come down the pipe...
I think I'd enjoy seeing a Timewalker series in that possible 8th title slot - I never read any of the original, but I like Ivan as a character from what I'd read in other books. It'd make a great series to link present/future Valiant timelines, although EW may serve that purpose just as well...
I'd actually also enjoy seeing some kind of crazy HARD Corps reboot - I've been reading through what I have [1-14ish], and I couldn't help but think that they never really explored the concept of using technology to simulate superpowers very well. It was almost arbitrarily accepted as a simple fact. I could see something cool along the lines of a really cranked up Suicide Squad flavour, with harsh cybernetic implants that may have harmful side-effects...
