30 bucks for 2nd print X-O!?? WTH, didnt it just come out!!?
Man, this is just gettting rediculous and frustrating, I actually like this cover & wish it was the original first since it actually shows whats going on in that particular issue and for some reason I cant find any and online they are going for stupid crazy prices for a brand new second print book that I would never pay that much for. Is this just an episode of the Twilight Zone or are we in for a world of hell as collector's of Valiant?

I think it will eventually settle down. Something went on with distribution of this print, and I think there will be some more trickling out there on the shelves besides what hit last week.MoonChild wrote:Man, this is just gettting rediculous and frustrating, I actually like this cover & wish it was the original first since it actually shows whats going on in that particular issue and for some reason I cant find any and online they are going for stupid crazy prices for a brand new second print book that I would never pay that much for. I tentatively disagree. This book will command price. I'm going to hold on to mine for a bit. I stick by what I said on the podcast.

Lame sauce, 4 bucks for a brand new book [let alone a 2nd print!] or no deal!

Strange hands these ended up in...
LCS that ordered low, or crazy askers. My LCS ordered one. Same number of QR variants, but half as many of the 1:20 variants. See where it is going?

Re: 30 bucks for 2nd print X-O!?? WTH, didnt it just come ou
I mentioned this in another thread, but I seriously do not see the allure of this book.
IMHO it's a reprint, not a variant of the first print. For people claiming this is just like a variant...then in theory all second prints are just "variants" and should be treated as such. Lots of reprints get new covers...but that doesn't make then a variant.
If it happens to be at my LCS I may pick it up (it is a nice cover), but definitely not going to go out of my way to get it. I just don't see the value of it. JMHO of course.

walking dead 33b is worth 3x as much as the first print, I know the print tun was probably way small, and the only diff is the color Background.

Unfortunately others do, because it is seen as rare right now, which sets the value. This will settle down because shops are still selling the ones they have for cover price. Meanwhile, the craziness is from people on eBay who are looking to make a quick buck by passing this off as a valuable book before anyone knows if it is or not.SJS4 wrote:I mentioned this in another thread, but I seriously do not see the allure of this book.

Value is only determined by what people are willing to pay for something, not by what it actually is (variant, 2nd print, signed, etc....doesn't matter)

Actually, that could be the fuel on the fire.BugsySig wrote:This will settle down because shops are still selling the ones they have for cover price.
If these are limited (which they appear to be), and if a good percentage of them find homes where the owner doesn't think they're special (because they're a second print they bought for cover price), then you'll have a big portion of the print run that aren't taken care of and likely won't be re-sold on the secondary market (some might even get trashed, literally or figuratively).
Think about what makes the Predator vs. Magnus trade (reprint) so valuable today.
Valuable collectibles are often the result of demand for something no one thought was special at the time, when it turns out they can't find one when they want one.

2nd print values are always driven by people that want ALL the covers. There are a lot of people who collect Valiant that fit into that category.

There was a time when WD 33 2nd was like 6-7X the value of the 1st print. Same cover, different color. Crazy.

Yeah, I agree. Crazy. I think it's just the OCD people that collect all those variants. At least Valiant's have different cover art... or in the old universe a cool "II" on the cover.Elveen wrote:MarrowMan wrote:walking dead 33b is worth 3x as much as the first print, I know the print tun was probably way small, and the only diff is the color Background.

A good point, which is basically what I was saying. We don't know yet if the book will be valuable, where as the variants at least have a known ratio/print run to go by. This is a strange case because if you take the time to look, as I did, you can find it for cover price. But if you go on eBay they are running as much as a 1:20 or QR, which at least go for similar prices in store.greg wrote:Actually, that could be the fuel on the fire.BugsySig wrote:This will settle down because shops are still selling the ones they have for cover price.

So solar 10 second print variant should be worth more because smaller print run, right?SJS4 wrote:I mentioned this in another thread, but I seriously do not see the allure of this book.

Apples and oranges.
Apples - Solar #10 - 35K seconds; 55K firsts
- 35K is a ton of copies.
- The covers are the same.
- Second prints make up almost 40% of the entire print run for the #10 issue.
- The black gimmick cover was a first time thing so the first print will always be more popular.
- 35K is a ton of copies.
- 35K is still a ton of copies.
Oranges - X-O #1 - ? seconds; 45K firsts
- We don't know the number yet, but there aren't a ton of second prints out there. My guess is in the 5K range and below that wouldn't surprise me. Based on what I've seen online, below 4K wouldn't surprise me either.
- It's opinion of course, but this wrap-around cover is the best of the bunch.
- There's no way the second print makes up 40% of the run (i.e. there's no way there are anywhere near 18K copies of the second print out there)

More than what $30? Zero chance of that (assuming every other valiant hasn't gone through the roof). I saw two listed with $18 BINs that I passed up on, give these more time, the price will come down further.StarBrand wrote:Imho this book will be going for more a year from now.

Agreed. What was the print run for the X-O #1 1:20? I think 2k (less than 5k for sure) and they go for $20 or less.
There is some excitement for them right now, but more of them will hit the market soon enough and the demand will drop off.
