The Shadow has never interested me and the same is true for this incarnation but I can verify that the Spider is good.

Funny that you'd like the proverbial ripoff of the shadow more than the shadow? :hm:

:?

DC has published the best version of the shadow in comics.

Is the Spider a ripoff of the Shadow? I understand that their original gimmicks were a bit different; the Spider was considerably more crazy by '30s pulp standards.

Glad to hear.

I have 'cured' myself over the last few years of my comic addiction. And had come to terms that I only wanted to fill in Valiant and Watchmen gaps.

These last days have been a wonderful blessing and curse.

I was unaware that the Spider was in the public domain. Was that still the case in 2008?
If you ask nicely, they may give you a sneak peak at how it is done.

I picked this up:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CS-Moore-Studio ... 519f92160d

I didn't buy it when first released because I didn't like the face on it. It looks alot better in person though. I've been watching them for a while and the prices have always been around $100 - $125 plus shipping. Lately, all the BINs up on ebay have been listed higher and higher for $200+ so I figured I'd better grab one while I can. I saved about $30 off of my snipe price and the statue itself came in undamaged so I'm happy.

Yeah, back then, when something got popular, they cloned it (just like today!)

They made the Spider more violent, while the Shadow was more creepy/horror (radio show). The serials were more action oriented but good.

when Norvell Page took over writing The Spider he turned the character into more than just a rip off of The Shadow.

Ummm... so, IDW is... successful? :hm:
