Yeah, I hear you. One of the very first comics that I ever bought was the annual where Peter and MJ got married. So, that's pretty much all I've ever known with Spider-man. The problem, is that I've invested a lot of time and money into Amazing Spider-man, so I find it impossible to quit now. I've almost got every issue from about 250-current, so I can't bring myself to end the run. It was really hard at the beginning of BND, but it started getting a little better around Gauntlet. I hold on mostly out of the hope that they'll undo this mistake one day, either with a retcon or a reboot. A lot of the stuff that has been allowed to happen since the Clone Saga is unbelievable. They really let this title slide downhill!MrBigFeathas wrote:I've heard that the stories are good but I can't get myself to care. It isn't the same Spider-Man that I grew up with and they wiped away too much. I enjoyed that Spidey was married to MJ. I am not a fan of Joe Q. I thought that the Ultimate universe was for people that wanted something different. But no we need a mass mind wipe in 616 also. My favorite part was that he said they would never do something like that at Marvel...just kidding.

I still buy every issue to keep my collection going too since I have a full run I would never want to break it. I just have no desire to read it after I'd read every issue up to that point. I hate that I am supporting it but after all the work to get every issue I can't stop getting them now. If they ever put it back how it was I will start reading again, but not until then.etos45 wrote:Yeah, I hear you. Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
I started reading The Amazing Spider-Man again once JMS came on board and I stopped reading The Amazing Spider-Man after Sins Past, and just dropped the series again after The Other crossover.
My idea is that Mephisto comes to collect the debt for wiping out the marriage, of course Peter and MJ refuse to pay (which is what Mephisto really wants because he gets control of the universe. You have to read the small print in dealing with a devil) and in the end Peter and MJ's selfishness destroys the Marvel Universe. Mephisto can't contain all the power he now has and blows up. A creator (it could be God who looks a lot like Stan Lee or a just a voice balloon if you want) recreates the Marvel Universe and incorporates other characters and teams from the multiverse (The Ultimate Universe, New Universe/New Universal, MC2, Marvel UK, etc) and creates an all new all different Marvel Universe. And before any of you say that makes no sense, my reply is what Joe Quesada said about BND: "It's magic, it doesn't have to make sense."
My conditions would be:
No previous storylines will be continued in the new Marvel Universe.
All of the previous continuities will have happened in the old universe none of it will affect the new one.
There would be no time travel, and no multiverse.
Magic will be extremely limited to characters like Thor, Dr. Strange, and Ghost Rider.
All books will be restarted but there will be no return to the orginal numbering.
There will be no way to have the new universe meet the old universe.
The old universe isn't dead lets just say that it's locked away and there is no key.
None of the characters would have any memories of the old universe.
Dead means dead.

Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
Sounds like a good idea to me. The only thing I don't want to see is the mixing of the Ultimate Universe and whatever becomes the new Universe. Ultimate works the way it is and is better off as its own separate thing. I'm not sure how likely it is that a Spider-man story could bring about the end of the Marvel Universe, though. It seems like Marvel prefers to use the Avengers and X-Men for all their "big" stories.Cyberstrike wrote:I started reading The Amazing Spider-Man again once JMS came on board and I stopped reading The Amazing Spider-Man after Sins Past, and just dropped the series again after The Other crossover.

Within the last couple days I asked my two best friends that own comic book stores if they thought Marvel was going to relaunch this year. These guys are both vastly knowledgable on the comic book market. One said yes, the other said no.

Considering that Marvel seems to continually be saying "no", I think the answer is "no".

Those moments aside, this issue is exactly what I've been expecting from this series all along: action, adventure, harsh decisions and relationships forever altered. More importantly, reality is starting to shift, things are changing and not necessarily for the better.

This is a pretty good article that speaks to possibilities forthcoming at Marvel.

Good article... even with nothing concrete to go on other than rumour & speculation. Interesting to hear about Marvel sales levels beyond 'Event' books like the current AvX. Personally I am sad to see the state they are in - I grew up on Marvel & love their universe. But I don't really support much of what they've been doing for years. Too much heavy reliance on marketing gimmicks to push higher sales like constantly running big crossover 'event' series that ultimately don't matter, re-starting titles, charging $3.99 for 'popular' series but only producing 20 pages... etc... rather than caring about their properties or their customers.StarBrand wrote:This is a pretty good article that speaks to possibilities forthcoming at Marvel.

The only Marvel I read is Iron Man now - its still a high quality story IMHO. If Fraction & Larocca leave, so will I.

Take it with a grain of salt, but Bleeding Cool is saying Marvel will be doing a relaunch called Marvel Now. It will reportedly feature Jean Grey. One thing for sure, Jean is returning.
