X-O Manowar #1 second highest selling non-Marvel/DC book

Post by Dr. Solar »

Numbers for May are out:

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/06/11/ ... -may-2012/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Based on the estimates listed in this article, X-O Manowar indeed sold a bit over 40,000 copies.

Most importantly, it is second only to Walking Dead #97 and #98 amongst non-Marvel/DC books!

That is excellent!

Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of *SQUEE*. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a Valiant Comic from me.

Hmm, was a quote from Tommy Boy basically saying other comics are guaranteed POS and that we should buy Valiant if we want quality....

Richard Hayden: You have de-railed...
Tommy: Shut up Richard!

With only one title, Valiant is the number 14 publisher in comics in May.

Not bad!

Also of note, After XO the next non-Big 2 book is Saga at #57 (31 slots behind XO in dollars), then you have to go all the way to #93 for the 3rd (Secret Srvice #2). So VEI has way out performed the immediate competition thus far. Excellent start.

Imagine, then, by August what they will rank...

Yeah I was talking with my LCS and the owner pretty much was saying he is so fed up with a lot of what Marvel and DC is putting out, I wonder if that is the general consensus? If so it can only help the relaunching of Valiant.

I didn't look any further down the list. That's pretty great!

They look to be on track to be in the top 10 by the end of summer, easily. That's great!

If you look at the rankings, its not just the store owners. Defenders #6 was 99th on the list...a book I wanted to love and hated. Just the success of TWD over the years shows that. And now Valiant is reaping all the bennefits...

I am impressed. Let us hope they can maintain!

I know this directly has no baring on anything, but for comparison does anyone know offhand what the launch numbers of recent past 'revived' comic book lines? I have been out of comics until this Valiant relaunch, so I don't even know what companies/titles to ask about other than DH's Goldkey relaunches?

I realize that was awhile ago and also everyone is saying that the market rebound is only just starting (or very recent) but it would be quite a story to tell.

There are a lot of people who blamed Valiant for the crash in the 90's, it would be very cool to correlate Valiant with a comics boom in the 10's!
What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

Well done Valiant. What I expected and hoped for.

How great for Valiant to be thinking of challenging The Walking Dead for top independent spot.
