Shooterverses
I'm getting back into thinking about Shooterverses. That's a word I coined that refers to the comic book universes that Shooter either conceived or had a heavy hand during the conceptualization and launch phase of. It's my contention these universes are all related. Here is a list of the Shooterverses in order of appearance:
Marvel's New Universe
Valiant
Defiant
Broadway
Dark-key
Marvel's New Universe
Valiant
Defiant
Broadway
Dark-key
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.
Re: Shooterverses
I would love to do a reading project wherein I read these all in order. That's likely not possible, as I don't have most of the Valiants, but maybe I'll eventually read the others in order of launch.

Valiant is the son of the New Universe.

Absolutely. I'm reading now. It strikes me the difference between the prototype New Universe - and its re-creation at Valiant.BruceReville wrote:New Universe is the Prototype
Something interesting about reading it alongside the Valiant origins - and comparing them.

Might as well throw Seven in there, between Broadway and Dark-Key.

Re: Shooterverses
Been looking for a Defiant universe set. Anyone selling? A read-able copy?

I have a majority of NU runs that I've picked up on the cheap...and have yet to read...might have to pull them out of storage and give them a try...print quality looks kind of half as$edkevinbastos wrote:Absolutely. Agreed - I love the old NU books [well, most of 'em. Everyone should just skip out on reading Kickers Inc. Seriously, don't do that to yourself].kevinbastos wrote:Absolutely. I'm reading now. I started collecting comics the summer they all started, and they had a huge impact/influence on me.
DP7 is a very similar concept to Harbinger... strong parallels between the Harbinger Foundation & 'The Clinic for Paranormal Research', as well as Toyo Harada & Philip Nolan Voigt. Really cool handling of the various powers people had, the side effects of abilities that weren't all convenient standard super powers - kind of like what Grant Morrison did during his run on New X-Men. Still an enjoyable read if you ask me, but then I am biased by childhood memories.

I also recommend reading the 'New Universal' tpb by Warren Ellis... I nearly crapped my pants when I heard he was doing a revamp of the whole NU in one series... drawn by Salvador Larroca... so very, very good. A terrible shame the man lost all of his working scripts in a computer crash and never revisited his plans to do more NU stories... it'll go down in comics history as a great tragedy that most people will never even know about
