I finally got to read the new X-O 1 yesterday. It really struck home what a major score it was to get Cary Nord in the fold. I really enjoyed the story too. I can't wait for June 6th. It's also going to be way great to have four new ongoings coming out every month later this summer.

Re: X-O #1 SPOILERS THREAD! Read the book then this thread!
Fiinally got to read the issue, after having a few minor setbacks, because of a comicshop that didn't have a clue, anyway, I thought the art was great, and the dialogue was pretty good, a nice mix of action, and even a heartfelt moment between father and son, that I couldn't help but laugh at when aric's father's sword broke, the most interesting part for me was the baby swap, cause it sets in motion what would seem to be a pretty huge sub plot, that, and I thought the process in which the armor chooses it's next champion (or whatever) was pretty cool (though it lasted all of 2 seconds) I 'm looking forward to learning more about the armor and it's origin...

Re: X-O #1 SPOILERS THREAD! Read the book then this thread!
Finally got my issues (and variants!) today. Really stoked, because I was a broke kid during the original Valiant (see my old Dollar Store Valiant post!), and more or less never had a current issue. Comics in general, in fact, fall into that category: outside of a random Iron Man, Spider Man or Sonic (probably no more than a half dozen), I've never been "current" on any comics.
This marks my first time being able to experience new Valiants as they're relevant, as well as to actually follow along, so I'm pretty insanely stoked.
Unnecessary introduction paragraph complete.
Won't be saying anything new here I'm sure, but I'm pretty thrilled with the first issue of X-O. The art, coloring and style felt reminiscent of classic Valiant, without going for the flash, flare and somewhat generic look of Ack-lame's V-2. Interesting to see it lacks the ring, and the Vine Baby has a lot of potential. I really dig the old-school looking Valiant Entertainment logo as well.
More or less dying to read more. The bright side to getting into Valiant after the fact was that I could read whole story arcs in one blow. Now I'm stuck waiting a month between sittings, but hey, as more series get rebooted, I'll have more comics to read together anyway!
I have the FCBD issue coming, but it's in the mail. I totally forgot about FCBD, and had to eBay it. Oops! Looking forward to the big reveals and excitement there, and to X-O #2 and Harbinger #1!
Stoked to see fresh new Valiant, so so stoked!

Re: X-O #1 SPOILERS THREAD! Read the book then this thread!
FINALLY got to read this today. Had some trouble getting over to my comic shop with my "mid-shift" work schedule and busy weekends. The good news is I now have less time to wait for issue #2
I just read through all the posts in this thread too. Man you guys can really dissect a book! I think it definitely helped coming here after immediately reading the book to help me figure out some of the underlying plot lines, though I might just skim these posts in the future because I have a feeling that some of you guys are actually already figuring out long term stories and I don't want to ruin it for me.
Overall I thought the book was great, though it did read really fast. Can't wait for issue #2. I skipped the Harbinger preview so I could enjoy that one in full when it comes out.
I also got my FCBD issue, but I do have to say I'm annoyed with comic stores that feel the need to "brand" these free books with store info.
Read a few parts to the FCBD but I think some of the initial uproar of the content of this book appearing all over the internet before the issue came out was actually warranted. Not a lot of new stuff in there.

Re: X-O #1 SPOILERS THREAD! Read the book then this thread!
Finally got my X-O Manowar goodness a few days ago and loved it. Even though I'd been spoiled by seeing so much of it already here on the boards it was wonderful to hold it in my hands. I got the regular issue and the pullbox variant as I'll be doing for the other titles at launch. Not sure that I can continue getting the variants after issue #1 though.
On a sad note, my LCS didn't save a copy of the FCBD issue in my pullbox as requested. He said they 'ran out of them'.
Um, isn't that the point of a pull box! So that those who know in advance enough get what they want. I guess that's only if a sale is involved. So now I have to wonder whether or not to go buy this on ebay or something. Can somebody tell me in general what is in the FCBD? Is it just reprinted snippets from X-O and Harbinger? Or is there other story/info contained that would be worth getting separately? (Other than just from a completionist standpoint?)

It includes parts of X-O #1 and Harby #1. Same content, unfortunately.
There is part of the script to Bloodshot #1.
The best thing about it are the ads for Eternal Warrior and Rai.

I just want to go on record as saying THIS, what we are doing in this thread, is EXACTLY why VALIANT was successful before and, I hope, is even more successful this time around! Great work to everyone on building this universe that has us THINKING!!!

That was sorta how it worked in the old Valiant universe, don't see why that would be different this time around.nutflush76 wrote:Wow, poring through the panels for clues. Flipping through the panels for potential cameos! This is what Valiant comics were all about for me back in the day!
Oh and BTW, I think that the Eternal Warrior definitely is in this story. I think he has gotta be the "my king" guy. Remember Aric and Gilad met in the past in the old comics. Though that wasn't one of the happiest memories for either of those two. So it will be interesting to see what happens.
As for the babies, I wonder if this could be setting the stage for a type of "Secret Invasion" type of storyline?
I can see why some might not like the synopsis, or it sounds like it might be the tone of the synopsis you didn't like, but I liked it.cjv wrote:Okay, I reread it again tonight...and I have to say that I don't like some things about that little synopsis in front.
I like the style. I like the idea of it. But c'mon - saying that a person has a life expectancy of 28...then drawing 28 little figures? Saying that visigoth's measure wealth with cows...and then drawing lots of cows = $$$$$$$? Do they think we are 5?
I like the idea of providing some background. I even like the idea of talking about some basic things like wealth and life expectancy. But you don't have to draw 28 little figure to show someone has a life expectancy of 28 years. Let's put those images to better use - like drawing the relative size of the armies, or where the visigoths came from, or even something like pictures of the rulers.
Chris
You or I may not be 5, but Valiant is going for as broad an audience as they can manage and I found this to be fun. In fact, I missed this concept in Harbinger #1, I was looking forward to it.
what bribri says, unless you are one of the crazy "completionists" I wouldn't worry about it.Phoenix8008 wrote:On a sad note, my LCS didn't save a copy of the FCBD issue in my pullbox as requested. What we need is innovation and even revolution—but not so much in the form of marketing ploys and doohickeys. What is needed is bold creative vision, excellent stories, and brilliant storytelling, in a word, entertainment. -- Jim Shooter

Resurrecting the X-O #1 discussion... new random thought...
Gilad is in X-O #1.
Aric never returns to his own time (we assume).
Therefore, Dierdre is eventually free to have babies with... Gilad.

Then, 1,600 years later... but only a few years later for Aric... Gilad tells Aric all about it.

Hmmm... In VH1 didn't Gilad betray the Visigoths to the Romans? I think setting up some kind of betrayal/conflict between Aric and Gilad makes for good story telling, whether it be that or what you said.greg wrote:Resurrecting the X-O #1 discussion... new random thought...

As for the prologue where VEI graphically explains what the number "28" means, I dunno, that space coulda been used for something less obvious, like what an Onager is.
Everyone knows what "28" means. Only players of "Rome: Total War" know what an onager is.
Twas silly.

But you do know what 28 stands for, numerically speaking, yes?Chiclo wrote:I don't know what a Rome: Total War is but an Onager is a forerunner of the trebuchet.jmatt wrote:Everyone knows what "28" means. Only players of "Rome: Total War" know what an onager is.

I'm guessing that if there was a poll of the average man on the street, 100% would know what 28 means and maybe .5% would know what an onager is. And at least 5% would recognize the single most popular strategy/tactical computer game series ever, Total War.

Seriously, if you're a fan of accurate historical combat, you owe it to yourself to try the latest incarnation, Shogun 2: Total War. I've been lost in these games off and on since 2000.
