What do you think this book is worth? Offers?

Post by wyospl »

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what a fair market value for this book may be. It is Magnus #64 graded CGC 9.8 but it is the newstand sales edition. There are only 11 graded at 9.8 and I think this may be the only one that is the newstand edition. I would appreciate any input and will consider offers if anyone is interested. I may be wrong but I would have to think that this book is very rare in this grade. Thanks everyone...

I believe one sold on eBay this week for $250, but double check me on that. The response here was along the lines of "not a bad deal", if I remember correctly.

So some vague answers to get you started. :)

It started at $250, but sold for $188 + $12 shipping with the "Best Offer" option.

I believe it could have sold for $225 or so if the seller had waited... but potential buyers also probably thought it was the only one in existence.

If there are two, that could impact the price.

No, actually I was the one that bought the one that just sold on Ebay because I beleived it was worth a lot more. Counting this one I have four of the #64's graded 9.8 and this is the only one that is a newstand edition and all the others that I have seen sell on Ebay in the past were direct editions so I still believe this is the only 9.8 newstand issue.

Ok, that makes a difference then. :thumb:

Check with "ckb". I believe he mentioned when you bought that book for $188 that he would have done better than that price if he had seen the auction.
He's building a set of the best Valiant slabs he can put together, so he's probably always interested in books that are 1 of 1.

Thanks, I really do not know if I want to part with it but I was wanting to know others opinions on what the book is worth. But then again I guess everything is for sale for the right price. I have another 9.8 which I believe is a 1 of 1 which is a 9.8 Vistor vs. Valiant Universe #1 with the 2.50 cover price. Thanks for the feedback so far!

The Visitor vs. Valiant Universe #1 with UPC was on ebay for many months before it sold, so I'd say that it's probably worth what you paid based on that one sale.

Not sure what demand might be if it was for sale again, but lots of people had the chance to buy it for a long time at that price.

Although rare and there will never be a lot of those issues; the market for those books is very, very small. The fact is, the non core graded books don't have the same audience, so it really comes down to the whims of a couple of individuals. If you look at some of the other extremely rare high grade books; magnus/pred 9.6/9.8, the shadowman 9.8 acclaims, sometimes they can sit on ebay for months before someone gets interested.

Any newsstand in 9.8 is rare, magnus 64 doubly so. I know of one other Magnus 64 newsstand in 9.8..might be a 9.6...

I don't collect newsstands, but I think that the book is "worth" quite a bit more than you paid given its rarity. The small market, as others have mentioned, holds it way back. There's only a small circle of people who care about newsstands, and most of those aren't picky about grade.

Also, since it is in a "dead" title, meaning we have no new Magnus coming, it hurts it even more in the marketplace.
