Re: X-O Manowar #1 (2012) - online reviews
Wanted to thank-you.
Didn't appear to be selling well yesterday. LCS bought 50 copies, and I picked up the 1:20, and 1:50 is supposedly coming for me...
But I tried to sell it yesterday during the weekly podcast which I showed up on. Didn't seem to move.
Bought it for two friends.
Showed the review to another.
Here are their responses:
I printed the reviews, and I'm bringing them to the shop to post next to the comics.
Thanks, again!

Totally agree with the reviews. Romans, barbarians, and aliens. What a combo.
The other guy I gave the reviews - who hasn't bought a comic since college, left at lunch, and bought the regular cover and the pullbox cover. One for himself, and one for his brother.Pinto wrote:
Sounds pretty interesting, I am always more likely to get in on the ground floor of something (kinda the case here)
Did you read Batman Bastos? You must, it's awesome.

A lot of great reviews, things are looking good right out the gate, I can't wait to pick up X-O #1, as well as Valiant's FCBD issue tomorrow.

Anybody feel Aric's battle with Commander Trill has panels drawn out of sequence? The 4th panel has him skidding in the grass from a back hand, then in the next he's laidout cold, but the last panel on that page has him receiving a leftt hook. I think it should have been LEFT HOOK>BACKHAND>SKID>LAID OUT COLD.
Then on the following page, Aric's eyes are half-opened before Trill and his troops speak, but the 3rd panel has eyes shut. Now it's quite obvious he's playing possum, but the half-opened eyes would be more indicative of this. IMHO,the flow should have been EYES SHUT > TRILL TO TROOPS >EYES HALF_OPEN.

There are two guys there, Aric and Gafti. The last panel is Gafti taking a left hook. The other panels are Aric. They are both dragged onto the ship right before it takes off.PFunkJAzz wrote:Anybody feel Aric's battle with Commander Trill has panels drawn out of sequence? I'll have to look again ... but how did you recognize it was Gafti? I guess I'm not paying attention. I simply ascribed anyone that wasn't Aric, his father or uncle as a Star Trek Red Shirt.greg wrote:There are two guys there, Aric and Gafti. The last panel is Gafti taking a left hook. I assume since it was one punch, the guy isn't killed, so he's probably the survivor they drag onto the ship with Aric. That was Gafti.jmatt wrote:I'll have to look again ... but how did you recognize it was Gafti? I guess I'm not paying attention. I guess the only thing that seemed weird to me was that the advanced aliens kept people in rusty metal cages.... that a little out of place to anyone else?

Didn't think about it til you mentioned it, but I don't think it's wierd. Why waste laser beams or crazy security on "primitive" beings if you are the Vine? I mean, what's the worst that could happen?deathmedal wrote:I guess the only thing that seemed weird to me was that the advanced aliens kept people in rusty metal cages.... that a little out of place to anyone else?

Yeah, duh. He even calls him Gafti on the alien ship. We reviewed it on our comics show:

I'm excited to see how well it's been received overall; really solid issue and a good start!

No. The Visigoths actually sack Rome in 410 ad. An event that often is cited as the end of Rome's dominance of the western world. The raid was led by none other than Alaric I, uncle to Aric of DaciaBrother Darque wrote:historical question:

Re: X-O Manowar #1 (2012) - online reviews
Ok. I'm going to be eaten alive for this, but while I mightily enjoyed XO # 1, I did have some reservations about it. While the art was excellent, I had trouble with some of the block feeling that parts of the coloring gave me and I wanted more exploration of the world Aric was living in. I'm hoping we actually get some of that before this arc is over, but somehow, now that he's on the ship, I doubt it. I'd give it 3 out of 4 stars. It's earned a B+/A-. I wasn't blown away by it, but I didn't hate it, either. One thing I did like was how the armor has been rejecting many warriors.
Anyways, good work guys. Nice start. Now kick it up a notch or two and put all my reservations to rest.

Too many people have been too reserved about mentioning zero issues lately.
I think this may be a big part of the payoff next summer, or in the future.
