To be honest - the final issue excepted - the recent Shooter run on LoSH was better than how that volume started; the initial issues were deathly slow and far too downbeat with the heavy-handed 'youth counter-culture' angle.xodacia81 wrote:I want to say Manapul was on art duties and it was not his best work. It certainly wasn't Shooter's best work, but then again, he hasn't done anything truly amazing since Broadway, and maybe even Defiant.Lightning Strike wrote:Oh, yeah that stuff was pretty badxodacia81 wrote:No, no, not his stuff from the 60's, but his stuff from a few years ago, that aborted 12 issue run where they tossed his final story and altered his intentions. But if you didn't like his run, at least try The Great Darkness Saga and Legion Lost (not the current one, the first one by DnA)xodacia81 wrote:Not too much. Tried and disliked the last Shooter run, but so did most people, lol.Lightning Strike wrote: Oh man, you have to try some of their best runs, you will be amazed. I had nothing to really compare them with. As a "starting point" I didn't find myself drawn in. As a matter of fact, I found it a bit, well, slow in what felt like the wrong places and fast in what felt like the wrong places. As I've said before, I've never been big on LOSH, so it may just be my natural resistance. I got the book more out of curiousity for Shooter than anything else.

I'm old school LOSH, but I've also enjoyed the DnA run and the recent Shooter run compared to them was garbage.leonmallett wrote:

Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
Ok now here is where it gets interesting:
Avengers vs X-men ends in October
Thor/Journey into Mystery "Everything Burns" crossover ends in October
Captain Marvel (aka Ms Marvel) gets a Hal Jordan type makeover this Summer
New Gambit & Hawkeye comics announced to begin at the end of the year
Alot of reshuffling of writers/artists on their comics
Lots of sequals to older stories coming out this summer to tie-up loose ends.
Nah - nothing big is going to happen anytime soon.

To be honest that doesn't seem huge. DC will have as many changes after con season.BruceReville wrote:Ok now here is where it gets interesting:

Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
Last year DC did pretty much the same thing and no one thought they would reboot and start everything back at 1 but look what happened. IMO honestly I think Marvel should undo one thing (Brand New Day) and then begin forward progression into the next age of comics and not reboot/relaunch.ian_house wrote:To be honest that doesn't seem huge. I was so into ASM before OMD/BND *SQUEE* it all up, It took a while for me to get back into ASM. I didn't start collecting again until ASM 613 (The Gauntlet)

Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
Yeah, leading up to OMD was some of the best comics for Spider-man. And OMD was really good too up until the very end. They should have let Aunt May die and moved on from there. The whole premise of the end of that story made no sense at all and everything that came after was just soooo confusing if you try to piece it together with the old continuity. They say, "It's simple, everything that happened happened, it's just MJ and Peter never married so she's not there." Problem being that she was a major plot device in a lot of those stories, so how does that work? I've slowly come back around on ASM and it isn't too bad right now, but I have to pretty much look at BND as a complete reboot in order to be able to read any of it.MarrowMan wrote:I was so into ASM before OMD/BND *SQUEE* it all up, It took a while for me to get back into ASM. Was it JMS who was in charge of Spiderman at the time of that storyline? I want to say it was, and that he said something about "certain stories were dictated to the writers."

Yeah, OMD was his last storyline. If I remember right, there was a controversy because they changed his ending to the story. I don't know if he originally intended to kill Aunt May or if they just changed how the MJ thing went down.xodacia81 wrote:Was it JMS who was in charge of Spiderman at the time of that storyline? All I know is, he has a record of his stories getting altered and rarely for the best. The "corporations" always think they know story better than the creatives they hire. Marvel sucks.etos45 wrote:Yeah, OMD was his last storyline. If I remember right, there was a controversy because they changed his ending to the story. Part of why he left Marvel and went to DC to work on Superman/Wonder Woman, etc, et al.xodacia81 wrote:All I know is, he has a record of his stories getting altered and rarely for the best. Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
His tv work had similar issues. B5 was plagued by uncertainty and interference, early on. Then, when it went to TNT, they took away nearly 2 days of production and 20% of the per episode budget. For the followup series, Crusade, they made ridiculous demands, some of which he "tried" to meet and others that eventually caused him to tell them to stuff it. The straw that broke that camels back was when the TNT brass suggested an alien "sexual explorer" who would meet and screw every new race the crew encountered, in order to "gain new knowledge". They also wanted "no less than 2 fistfights and 3 gunfights" in every episode. NOT the show that JMS wanted. Rather than allow this to pass, the show was halted and then axed.MarrowMan wrote:Part of why he left Marvel and went to DC to work on Superman/Wonder Woman, etc, et al.xodacia81 wrote:All I know is, he has a record of his stories getting altered and rarely for the best. Maybe undoing BND would cause the major reboot that Marvel desprately needs to do.

Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
They're really not that bad (where I'm at right now, anyways), but you pretty much have to consider BND as a reboot and ignore all the continuity before to avoid any headaches. That being said, I want them to fix this nightmare and the only way to do that without making a further mess is to reboot the series. Unfortunately, for an Amazing Spider-man reboot to work, that would require a reboot of the entire Marvel Universe. Otherwise, how are you going to have their continuity connecting with a Spider-man that no longer exists? It would eventually cause the reboot to fail, IMO.MrBigFeathas wrote:As a huge Spider-Man fan I can only hope. Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
I hope it's not as boring as 600 was... I don't think anything really happened in that issue. For all the hype of 500, it wasn't all that special either. I miss the days when the 100 issues meant a big deal to the storylines.StarBrand wrote:Spider-Man 700 is due at the end of the year.Cyberstrike wrote:Maybe undoing BND would cause the major reboot that Marvel desprately needs to do.

Re: Will there be a Marvel reboot or relaunch this year?
I've heard that the stories are good but I can't get myself to care. It isn't the same Spider-Man that I grew up with and they wiped away too much. I enjoyed that Spidey was married to MJ. I am not a fan of Joe Q. I thought that the Ultimate universe was for people that wanted something different. But no we need a mass mind wipe in 616 also. My favorite part was that he said they would never do something like that at Marvel...just kidding.etos45 wrote:They're really not that bad (where I'm at right now, anyways), but you pretty much have to consider BND as a reboot and ignore all the continuity before to avoid any headaches.
