Harbinger 1 Cover

Post by arghh! »

I noticed that the Harbinger 1cover in the Summer 2012 book is altered slightly from the original preview. The bubble that says something like "I can't believe I have to report to a 30 year old kid" isn't there anymore. It was right by Pete's left hand and you can see it there in Greg's all in one graphic. :hm:

Maybe they didn't want the word Damn on the cover?

Really? Damn was controversial in "Gone With The Wind" like 80 years ago. I would think it's pretty benign today, even to a 12 year old, no?

Well I always took that bubble as a jab at Jim Shooter (who couldn't believe he had to report to a 30 year old kid under the Valiant regime). Actually I have no idea the ages of Dinesh and company so maybe I'm reading too much into it. But if not, it's more likely that they took that off either to seem "more professional" in regards to another comic industry colleague or maybe to not burn that bridge in case they could once again try to work with him down the road?

Just a thought.

I hadn't thought about that...but your right it was a comment made by Shooter in a blog after everything he did to VEI and taking it down could have been the right thing to do. Sort of bury the hatchet.

as long as i get to have Harbinger #1 in June, it could have "MarrowMan is a giant dweeb flip-top headed maple syrup eatin' Canuck" splashed across the cover for all I care.

Yeah, I think that's the case. The word "damn" is in a thought bubble just a bit below that one.... in the one about the ace on the river.

I think you're right about them not wanting to take a swipe at Shooter, but as far as not wanting to burn any bridges, I think Shooter himself has already burned that bridge plenty. I would be absolutely shocked if they ever hired him again after his comments.

As would I, but I think it was a good choice to take it off, no matter how big a chuckle I got. They are acting "big" now and they can let Shooter continue to seem 6.5 inches, rather than 6.5 feet, tall.

This is kind of how I read it too after seeing the comments in Shooter's blog. I also agree it was a good idea to pull it. It's always better to be the bigger person (company).

Trust me I love me some Shooter but with that said when Shooter has left any were he has burnt the bridge then blew up what was left with a nuke and that is what I like about him and what I hate about him he does not know how to play well with others its his way or he takes the ball and goes home and a lot of times his way is right but he does not know when his way is wrong either.

Well I'm not a Newfie, that's for sure. We're typically called Bluenoser's or Capers. But since I've lived in Toronto since 1979 I would say I'm not really either, just a a Torontonian. I hate the Canadians. As horrible as the Maple Leafs are they are my team. I don't jump bandwagons btw, I stick to rooting for my team or nothing at all.

Good. I don't know if I could have ever become a Leaf fan. Don Cherry isn't my idea of a cheerleader. I'd rather root for guys like Lidstrom, Yzerman, Datsyuk, Bowman, Babcock and those types...

I was sitting in Chicago at the airport waiting to get on the plane. I was just kind of scrutinizing all the preview issue. For some reason that line stuck out to me when I read it the first time and I couldnt find it while I was looking at it in the preview, so today I pulled up Greg's cover chart to make sure I wasn't crazy. There may be more changes than that- I didn't compare every bubble.

The report to a damn 30 year old kid bubble is in the FCBD issue. I am guessing it was printed prior to the C2E2 book?

Most likely. The third book released was the first one printed, just to keep us guessing... sounds about right. :D
That reminds me of the ValiantComics.com Validated Signature Series books that we did on this site in 2004.
The first project completed was the Eternal Warrior #5, but it was released third.
http://www.valiantfan.com/valiant/vcvss.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's likely that the FCBD contents had to be turned in early for the FCBD program, not necessarily that they were printed first.
