CGC raising rates in 2012

CGC raising rates

Tough to deal with considering the wait times involved.

CGC is *SQUEE*, They need to have a license to be given out to dealers, who buys the acutal packaging stuff. I can be my own CGC for all I care.

The cases suck also. They are taking advatange of the fact that most people do not take measues to store comics.

I like the idea off having collectables, stored but what do they do that is so special? Do they run the book threw a magic machine?

Yes they do. And you know better than to question them. Do you remember the last time someone called out CGC? That's right, you don't, because that person ceased to exist almost immediately. Shut your mouth, pay the fees, and pray no one at CGC reads this board. Holy *SQUEE*, I can't believe you think you can get away with this. eBay, Paypal, CGC, Diamond...the JFK assassination had less people involved.

What you are saying has some merit over on the CGC boards, but I think he's safe bashing CGC here. Even though I think he is loopy. :)

I think I was a bit loopy when I posted that. I know sarcasm and ball busting is par for the course here, but I don't mean to step on a topic that someone is legitimately concerned about.

But I don't think there's much you can do about them raising rates other than not use them. Or use PGX instead. :p

Yeah, not a chance on using PGX, they have done way too many shifty things. At this point, I'd rather have a raw book than a PGX slab.

It's going to be a little bit before they can process any new books. Grandma needed the pool table setup for the weekend.

The shame is the market is needing a competitor in the worst way with all the complaints about long delays to process books, while at the same time prices go up for the delayed service.

And I am a fan of CGC's service, so not trying to turn people away from submitting. It just makes for a more customer-friendly environment when there is a viable option. PGX, ACE and whatever else has come along are not that option.

One day. :hope:

Surely the sheer amount of work they take on must be ridiculous and so the wait is inevitable as more people climb aboard the professionally graded comic express.

If there wasn't such an incredible influx of new comics and people used them to grade comics that may actually benefit from a professional opinion, it might help some, but that will probably never happen.

There are too many people new to the industry who will always try new CGC books out when the friendly retailer tells them what a great investment they are :/

I always like the idea of having a solid opinion on a Silver age book etc, but the prices I must admit scared me off way back when, so a price hike now wont obviously affect me.
What it might do is slow down the amount of submissions and let them play catch up a bit on product that the industry overall benefits from having graded.

Who knows or dares to wonder :)
I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.

There has definitely been an increase in CGC's workflow as the economy improved over time. Within the past year at a Chicago show CGC brought around 3,000 cases so they could grade books. There were so many Copper Age and Modern Age books submitted, partway through the show they had to start sending books on to Sarasota so they had enough cases left over for Silver and Golden Age books. You definitely hit on their challenge right now.

But you would hope some forecasting comes out of experiences like this so as to plan for the market increase. I'm sure it's happening. It just can feel like forecasting isn't happening when you are the one waiting on your books to come back home.

I want to start submitting some moderns in a few weeks. I haven't submitted comics in years so I am not familiar with the pricing at all. The price of a fast track modern would be $25 not including the shipping and insurance.?

Get with someone that has a dealer's account. They receive up to 20% off, and if they are someone you know they may pass all or a portion on to you.

But the CGC submission form is pretty straightforward, and will spell out all costs including shipping/insurance when completed electronically.
