WHY?! :!:
It appears that Harley Quinn is the new breakout underground star in comics much like Deadpool was back in the'98-'00 era. Maybe due to the Batman cartoon.

Her first appearance in Batman Adventures #12 is steadily on the rise:

Raw:

CGC 9.8:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 500wt_1180" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Seems like all the series she's appeared in sell consistently at a decent price.

Just guessing. :?
Good analysis. :thumb:

According to CGC Batman: Mad Love is the issue with her origin out of DC continuity. Batman Adventure 12 is her first appearance out of DC continuity.

Her appearance in Batman Adventures #12 was the first time she ever actually appeared in a comic book, counting Animated and Main DCU.
Mad Love (which was out a couple months after Batman Adventures #12) is her origin used for the comics based on Batman The Animated Series, but since it was also written by the writers of the cartoon, it "counts" to the cartoon's fans. For that matter it was even adapted into an episode a few years later.
Batman: Harley Quinn, published in 1999, is the first time Harley is incorporated into the main DC Universe.

Just read a tweet from a creator that Deathstroke 9 is the first appearance of the new Lobo and Omega Men. I wonder how much of this is going on, with old DC characters' first appearance in the new 52 being considered legit first appearances all over again.
Valiant is the son of the New Universe.

The strange thing is thats comic "sellers" (dealers/vendors/people selling at cons) consider all 3 her 1st appearance. All 3 have big value on the back issue market. But be careful mad love has different printings and a TBP.

I remember a few years ago when the Batman Animated #12 was not worth anything. I gave it to someone for free when they bought a copy of Mad Love from me.

Not anymore. I've seen it go for crazy prices.

Harley Quinn is one of those character that has a rabid cult following. there are Harley Quinn fans that don't read comic books.

It looks like every title that Harley Quinn appears in is turning to gold. An entire run of Batman adventures is going for $249 on ebay. Gotham City Sirens is heating up also. Like I said, Harley Quinn is the new Deadpool.

The only thing I would disagree with is the "is" in your sentence. She has already been, and will continue to be. Like I said, she is more than a comic book character.

Elveen and I had a discussion about this after SDCC a couple of years ago. For a character without her own book, there were a lot of women running around San Diego dressed up as Harley Quinn. She is now and has been popular for quite some time.

I guess it's the cartoon. Maybe it's a bunch of sisters watching the cartoon with their brothers and identifying with the chick character (but I'm not sure that is even it). Not sure, but she sure is popular.

Harley has an innocence about her character that you don't see in modern comics. She has rare dark moments, usually involving the Joker, but those dark moments are infrequent enough to give her depth.

The new Harley, not so much. Her libido is significantly more pronounced over her previous incarnation.

Harley is "cheescake" as the virginal neckbeards across the darker corners of the internet, like to call it. They are threatened by her but they can't turn away.

Certain characters such as Harley Quinn always sell well and it's worth watching for new and future 'overlooked' appearances - hence Suicide Squad.

Speaking of Deadpool and a recent overlooked appearance:

I'm sure that the Arkham Asylum and Arkham City video games had something to do with Harley Quinn's popularity as well. More people played those games than read any one Batman comic in, well, ever.

Her new look and portrayal is largely informed by those games.

Gotta agree with this. She is a major player in the games and they had a huge player base.

Topic: end of Groo run issues.

In his most recent email, Chuck Rozanski comments on how difficult some of the last issues of Groo are to find. If Mile High wasn't able to come across them after this long, (until now) that really hits home.

"particular issues from the end of the Marvel/Epic GROO run are so hard to find that we still do not have cover scans on a couple of them, even after 15 years of searching!"

Listing for Groo 101-120
Current listed price 209.92.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GROO-101-104-10 ... 336f44f6eb" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

3 copies of Groo 120 sold at 19.99 ea before shipping.

This reminds me of the crazy Thanos debate between Iron Man 55 and Captain Marvel.. lol!

Publication wise: Iron Man 55 (02/73) - Captain Marvel 25 (03/73) Thanos War Pt 1 even though Thanos doesn't appear until Captain Marvel 26.

However continuity wise Thanos appears in Avenegers 118 which chronologically takes place before Iron man 55 so :?

A run of Tec #871 through #881 hit the c-note mark:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 979wt_1163" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Most are not difficult to find except for #871 & #880. Scored a #872 and #880 for 50% off the cover price today. :cloud9:
