Back-ups?

Post by deathmedal »

I wonder if any of the first line comics will feature back-ups to feature/intro characters, similar to what they are doing with SHAZAM/Captain Marvel in the new JLA books. Could be intresting for some of the characters. I'm sure there will be plenty of cameos atleast.

Back-ups would be AMAZING. Maybe after the first arc or two, once a character has been reintroduced to the audience.

And Valiant should totally hit up some nostalgic promotions like the flip-cover. No one does that anymore.

And :hm: chromium...lots of chromium.

I like the "2nd Wave" Chromium covers, they were indestructible and pretty awesome looking. The Wraparound covers had pretty decent art. :P

I also Wouldn't mind some #0 issues.

Yeah, XO #0 is still one of the best covers of all time. And Bloodshot #0 was pretty awesome too.

And screw it, let's get some coupons in the first 6 issues of each to mail in :thumb:

1/2 Issues - Where you have to scan in a serial number coupon to redeem - that way no cutting required. Also I want Red Issues (ie Unity Red - CEAR)

This is an awesome idea! Scan a QR code on various issues and recieve a special 1/2 or 0 issue. There'd have to be a limited number, or a way to tell you actually bought the books and aren't just standing at your LCS scanning them, but that's brilliant!

Or maybe it could just be for a digital version? Scan the code, get a page or two digitally, then scan all the issues needed to complete the story.

I have a feeling that SOMEthing is in the works. No info or background stuff this time. I just know that so much of the Valiant mythos was built around the zero issues, 'coupon' redemption, and premiums. I also know that much of this stuff was frowned upon the last time around. VEI has already shaken up so much - and we're still six weeks away from the first issue, right?

I don't think any disappointment is on the horizon. I'm trusting these kids.

I think the problem with coupon scanning or QR codes is going to be that, unless the issues are polybagged, people are going to scan them in the shops. Then the legitimate buyer won't be able to redeem the code. If they're reusable, then there'd be to much risk of people sharing the codes online or redeeming for multiple issues. If they polybag it, then people are going to feel the need to buy multiple copies to have one in "mint" and, though not as bad as coupon clipping, I'm not a fan of that.

The scanning for a digital version is a pretty cool idea. No major expense to Valiant and no major loss if the codes were shared. People like to own physical prints of comics, though, so maybe the digital download could be reprints of original Valiant issues.

Yeah, me too. Can't remember the last time I even read a backup feature. Although, some of them are pretty good. The Jimmy Olsen special that collected all the backups from Action Comics was probably my favorite comic of all last year.

I just can't get involved in a serialized story that runs 5 pages a month.

DC does a digital copy of JLA like that now - Malibu did one where it was a serialized coupon you scanned in - can't reproduce a serial number

But it had to have been polybagged, right? I mean, Avenging Spider-man did that for at least the first issue, but they pollybagged the code so it could only be used after it was opened.

Yes it is polybagged - that was what I was saying. Malibu however did a serial number coupon redemption that worked very well in redeeming some exclusive trading cards. A system like that would work - no cutting or opening of bags required.

QR and barcode scanning would not work with everyone as not everyone has a smart phone.

A serial number system might be more fair to all readers. I agree.

As far as the digital, maybe do something similar to the Batman Beyond digital series from DC. They release one chapter at a time digitally, then release the complete print version a month later. Redeem the codes, get part of the story with each one, then Valiant releases the print edition to those who cashed in all the parts of the book? Or just do a general release, but the reward is getting the story first.

Okay, I see what you're saying. Yeah, it would have to be done with serial numbers because otherwise what's to limit me from turning in the same numbers from one issue over and over to get multiple freebies. I wasn't sure if QR could be be randomized like that, so I didn't know whether that would work.

Being polybagged would still suck, but it's better than cutting up my comic. :thumb:
