Gutters' Post on new Valiant

New Gutters webcomic up today that slams new Valiant right out of the box. Head over if you can & let them know that Valiant fans are here & ready for new books!!!

I actually agree with everything he said in that article I am sorry to say. Unfortunately he never said a word but I did see all that crap he typed.

This guy needs to get off his little soapbox. He is just sick (like us) of seeing Rai #9 & Turok #1 in cheap bins for such a long time that's what the non comic reading public thinks of Valiant. I mean used to be comic reading public but left after the boom ended.

Sounds like he couldn't afford a Harbinger #1 and still bitter about it.

As long as there is a place in comics for crap (Liefeld, bikini covers, fake deaths) there will ALWAYS be room for Valiant (great stories, characters, and art).

I'm not worried.

He reminds me of a lot of people, particularly those who sell comics. If it isn't X this or Super that, they won't sell it. I think the sad truth is, Valiant was over the heads of most comic store owners and buyers.

This I agree with. it wasn't until the last possible second they realized they missed the boat on pre-unity hence the outstanding order numbers for Bloodshot #1 when it came out.

Yep, and then they wanted to blame the company for having ordered more copies than the demanded existed for. "I made a bad business decision! It was not my fault! It...it...it's THEM! They MADE me do it!"

Bloodshot #1 sold out... everywhere.
Turok #1 and Deathmate were the bad decisions, driven by... greed.

I think it "started" with Bloodshot #1 at the time it was the highest printed Valiant comic. Yeah it sold a bunch but I wouldn't call it an instant sell-out. I know retailers and dealers that still claim to have a case of them. I understand claiming and having are two different things. There are dealers that have told me they have a ton of pre-unity books only to have a hand full of them when push comes to shove.

First chromium cover and print run close to 1 million. Sounds like some over print to me

Haha I thought it was pretty funny. And he doesn't say anything particularly cruel, after all it is a site thats there to make fun of the comics we love.

kinda like his art work, but his words are just kinda meh...coming off like sour grapes or something, can't quite put my finger on it...like he was turned down for a job or something

I set up at the NYC show soon after Bloodshot had come out, and I had dealers offering to pay some too-large fraction of cover price for it. This was before the internet takeoff, and they all were blissfully unaware that while they sold out and the book could not be reordered, there were tens of thousands of copies that were undistributed, bought by speculators.

They got the idea when they asked if I had more available at my price. I replied "how many thousands of copies do you need?"
