and for the record, although i do like valiant, and i do like to play video games, i am not neo-european (or whatever) artist mentioned above. i can draw veins almost as good though! at least while doing drunken handstands!

It's ZWH, I think Hobo turned his eBay ID over to him a while back.

I'm pretty sure that's right.

Archer & Armstrong #0 Gold CGC 9.8 will be an expensive book
as long as there are only a (relative) few on the census.

Valiant "big books" in CGC 9.8 on the census:
Harbinger 0 Pink - 153 copies
Rai 3 - 118 copies
Magnus 12 - 77 copies
Magnus 0 (no card) - 70 copies
Unity 0 Red - 70 copies
Harbinger 1 - 63 copies
Rai 4 - 49 copies
Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Embossed - 46 copies
Solar 10 (first print) - 37 copies
Magnus 0 (with card) - 26 copies
Archer & Armstrong 0 Gold - 14 copies
Bloodshot 0 Platinum - 6 copies
Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Flat - 4 copies

The most interesting part of this list is that some of the Eternal Warrior 1 Gold Flat four copies in CGC 9.8 may actually be the Embossed version with the wrong label.
Of course, it's also possible that some of the 46 copies of the Embossed could be Flat with the wrong label.

As I've been saying recently, I think $400 is low. It would take more for me to sell mine because I have no prospects for replacing it.

Being the first Valiant variant, and with new life in the characters, I only see upside barring a steep rise in census numbers.

ZWH had it for sale on the CGC boards for $400, glad he found a buyer on eBay. I strongly suspect he will be prowling the halls of the SDCC this week. If you look at his eBay completed sales history, I think he might be ready to do some serious shopping.

Still seems like too much, the CEAR 9.8 has fallen in price and there's far fewer of those floating around...

You are comparing pre-unity to post-crappy... :)

I think you are underestimating how roughly A&A 0 was treated for years. Greg was pulling them out of long boxes for under $5. Like the EW Gold flat, it lost its "special" status for awhile. I don't think the CEARs or Unity Reds ever quite did.

It's a pretty flimsy book and prone to spine creases. I don't think it could ever surpass Haribnger 1 on the census in total copies, barring a horded unopened case or something like that.

I think the jury is still out on most CGC listings. Completing an entire collection in CGC status would cost the price of the line plus $20 each book.

I just don't know MANY people willing to shell out for... let's say... Bloodshot 8 in 9.8 status.

So... extend that argument.

Buyers then have to pick and choose what books to purchase in a slabbed form.

I don't know of many people who LOVED Chaos Effect.

Do I want one in my collection? Absolutely.

Would I pay an extra $200 for it, or would I choose Archer & Armstrong?

Pretty easy.

Of course, I don't have any CGC comics in my collection. I'm probably a bad example.

But I do remember someone selling a 9.6 CEAR for $50 (or perhaps $75) on this board that went UNSOLD.

But finding a person who was wishing a 9.8 Chaos Effect set would be difficult.

Actually, you're a good example.
Most of the guys who are already into CGC comics have obtained their "top priority" books already.
Some have moved on to the lesser books, such as the Bloodshot #8 you mentioned, while others won't ever go there.

It's the continued demand for the books that will determine the market prices.

Most Valiant collectors have similar lists of "top priority" books, even if they don't own a CGC graded book.
If those Valiant collectors decide to go with CGC graded copies, they'll enter the CGC market for the first time.
Where will their "new money" be focused in that market?

It's obvious to me that 100 copies of Harbinger #0 Pink wouldn't be enough to satisfy Valiant collectors today,
while 10 copies of Bloodshot #8 might be enough for many years.

I think we're agreed. Can't imagine anyone out there who just is prioritizing a pristine copy of a non-influential book - or if one exists...

I think that many would prioritize important Valiant books, that may or may not be rare.

I just don't see Chaos Effect as an IMPORTANT book, even if it is rare.

That's why demand for that kind of book would remain relatively low.

I still don't see myself as a particularly good example, but understand your perspective. As a non-owner of CGC books, I don't think I can really provide effective commentary. Yet.

As a prospective owner, I don't see myself starting. IF I did, I would begin with MY history - which started around Unity - like nearly everyone.

I saw those awhile back too and wondered about elveen's listing...those prices are just so absurd, do we have any market history at all of prices anywhere near that, or even around $50+? It's like one crazy seller started that trend and a few others are playing follow the greedy seller...
