What movie would you make?
If given the funding, what movie would you choose to make from the Valiant comics? What actors would you see with the various roles. Is there a specific story arc you would choose, or would you make one up?
One thing I want you all to keep in mind is that while story arc "A" from comic book "B" may be your favorite, or the best written, it may not translate well into a movie. Basically, I want you to think like a producer, and try to pick a hero/title/story arc that would sell well. Harbinger 1-4 may be a great story arc, but I don't know if it would have mass appeal.
My ideas
XO Manowar retribution - the CG on the armor would be really nice, and the story of a barbarian battling aliens might go over quite well.
Shadowman might make a good goth/dark kind of movie (like the Crow?), but it may not have as much appeal.

I think the origin story arc of XO would make an excellent movie. Starting with his barbarian days, then his abduction by the spider aliens, his time aboard the spider aliens' spaceship, his discovery of the armor, his escape, and then being deposited back on earth in the future with the awesome XO sentient armor at his disposal. I think that if they did a good job, and with the right script, they really wouldn't need to go much further than that. That would really set up a sequel nicely.....

I'd go with...
...the Solar Alpha and Omega storyline starring Christopher Walken.

Why it's the PLEX of course! Check out some of Chaykin's American Flagg! comics put out by First in the 80s. Superior reading material!Knightt_333 wrote:Walken ROCKS !!!! My favorite actor bar none.... hey what does your avatar mean or where is it from ?
X-O, all the way......!!! The visual potential alone would sell this movie.
Shadowman would be cool if they put a really dark, gothic twist to it. Kind of like a voodoo Batman.
Bloodshot would also be good, but he is one of those characters where the story has to be excellent. If not, he would come across as an albino Punisher.

He seems a bit "short" (Bloodshot is 6'8", I believe) for the part.Byrneout wrote:
Ah, hell. I hate to say this, but... wouldn't the Rock make the perfect Bloodshot?
I'll be giving a more detailed response on this later, though.
Still, if Tom Cruise could play Lestat...
Triple H was in talks a few years back.
How tall are YOU, Byrneout? Maybe get a funny haircut, quit hitting the tanning beds?

UNITY would have to be a trilogy. But changed a bit.
I would do Bloodshot #0/Rai #0/Magnus#0 as the first film, this almost introduces all the Valiant Universe in a nutshell.
I'll get the creative team behind 'The Returner' to work on parts of the film.
The second film I would like to do would be a sort of Harbinger #0-3, Solar #3/6/7, Shadowman #1, X-O #0/1/2/4 combo - a streamlined version in which the Harbinger kids discover that "aliens" have attack one of their friends Jack Boniface who is a portal to this "Lost Land" the home dimension of the spider aliens @ the same time that Solar learns from Harada the existence of the Spider Aliens already on Earth. X-0 would be one of Harada's first Harbinger Foundation scouts, to seek out the Lost Land that finds a living armor during his capture there.
The 3rd film would be a X-O #4/Solar #10/11, EW #4/5/Magnus #12 about the battle for the Lost Land and the efforts to defeat the Spider Alien invasion. It'll be sort of a short version of UNITY #0 & UNITY #1, in which the Spider Queen (Erica; Mothergod) would be the anti-Solar and wants to use the Blood of Heroes to unlock the Lost Land ability to take over all dimensions.
I know it’s a *SQUEE* but it would honor and summarize the major players. But in filmdom one has to make some compromises
Okay, wishful thinking BUT if I did win the lottery, I would try to sponsor a Valiant Universe set of films

I would love to see a Harbinger, Shadowman or Solar movie. I doubt any would be commercially sucessful, at least Harbinger. Ebert would call a Harbinger movie a rip off of X-men. Shadowman could be gothic, like the Crow and become a cult type movie as mentioned above. Solar could be really cool. I just don't have much faith Hollywood would treat him right. They'd make him into a goofy Superman type hero with lots of CG and minimal story or plot.
If you want a commercially sucessful movie you'd have to go with XO or Turok. Dinosaurs and spider aliens with CG armor will bring in the masses. Even a Bloodshot movie with lots of guns would bring in the kids. Hollywood would *SQUEE* the story and water it down for the masses. As Lisa Simpson puts it, "The dumbening of America".

Actually, The Rock is 6' 5", which puts him close enough to pull off the role if he wears combat boots...BloodOfHeroes wrote: He seems a bit "short" (Bloodshot is 6'8", I believe) for the part.

Yeah, but I don't think HHH would fit the bill too well. I could see him as Aric from X-O, but I'd much rather see (if we're sticking to wrestlers) someone like Edge as Aric.BloodOfHeroes wrote: Triple H was in talks a few years back.
Well... I *could* do the pale and pasty aspect of Bloodshot pretty well - but I'm only 6'1", maybe 6'2" in ring gear. That, and the burn scars on my chest would be a problem - but hey, they airbrushed out most of the Rock's tattoo for "Walking Tall", so I guess they could do that for me, also...BloodOfHeroes wrote: How tall are YOU, Byrneout? Heh. No worries on that part, I assure you!BloodOfHeroes wrote: (please don't kick my @$$)

I saw an extended trailer for "I, Robot" with Will Smith.magnusr wrote:Magnus of course. Probably Steel Nation. Action, emotions, a person trying to find out where he belongs. Can't get better than that. Of course his origin must be told, so that and Steel Nation might be too much for one movie.

Get this:
In the future, Will Smith's law enforcement character is the only person
who believes that the robots may have "ulterior motives" besides
100% obedience to humans. He thinks they may "rise up" in large
numbers against the humans... and he wants to stop them!

Found it, thanks for the tip Greg, that's a must-see.greg wrote:"I, Robot" with Will Smith.
I wonder how Will Smith would be as Magnus? Nah, not enough karate moves and Magnus needs to be a more "boring" kind of person. But I would look for someone who can sport intelligence and neat moves rather than excessive muscles.

Yeah, it's a "loose" take on Isaac Asimov's Robot stories: The trailer goes as far as listed 'their' version of the "Laws of Robotics" .greg wrote:I saw an extended trailer for "I, Robot" with Will Smith.magnusr wrote:Magnus of course. The original 'I, Robot' was a collection of short stories that defined the 3 Laws and the various ways they could be applied or 'abused'.
Star Trek: Next Generation refers to the postronic brain, which was another Asimov 'creation'. The TV show even played with the Laws thru the character Data.
But the relationship of Asimov & Magnus has been discussed before, and even more so with "I, Robot":

And a great document on the relationship or history of robotic in fiction(which includes Magnus!)
