New Scarlet Spider #1
I see Marvel is soliciting a new Scarlet Spider #1. Could this finally be the return of Ben Reilly? I can't wait to pick this up.
DeFalco originally intended the Clone Saga to go a relatively short while, then unleash Ben on the Marvel universe, similar to what he did with Thunderstrike. That's how it would've gone, if Marvel's brass at the time hadn't insisted on dragging out the Clone Saga for the sales it brought.
If not Ben Reilly, who could be the new Scarlet Spider?
Man, I love DeFalco's ideas!

Interesting. Did Kaine play a major role in Spider Island?BruceReville wrote:Editor Steve Wacker in Amazing Spider-Man #673 that Kaine will be the latest to take up the Scarlet Spider mantle.

Crud. Well, I'll probably check it out, but I doubt I'll stick with it.BruceReville wrote:Editor Steve Wacker in Amazing Spider-Man #673 that Kaine will be the latest to take up the Scarlet Spider mantle.

I'm communicating with a guy through eBay about a Scarlet Spider book that's slabbed, and he says the Scarlet Spider is his favorite character. It's amazing the sort of ground roots support that character still has.

I actually liked the idea of the character to some degree.
I will at least give it a try.

Here's a review of Spider-Man 672, which seems to lead into Scarlet Spider 1. I need to pick this issue up.
The reviewer feels the same way I do about the Clone Saga. If you click on the link, there are spoilers about issue 672.

Re: New Scarlet Spider #1
Sometime this month there's supposed to be an 8 page story in Amazing Spider-Man featuring the new Scarlet Spider. It's one of the point 1 issues.
If anyone figures out which issue this is, please let me know. Thanks.

Some ideas, concepts, and characters should stay dead and the Scarlet Spider and the Clone Saga are two of them. They sucked back in the 90s and they still suck now, if not more.

Re: New Scarlet Spider #1
It's funny because the clone saga is what made me quit collecting back in the 90's, but I wouldn't mind seeing a Ben Reilly return now. If I remember Kaine right, he's a pretty buff guy. I think he'd look a bit weird in a spider outfit.Cyberstrike wrote:Some ideas, concepts, and characters should stay dead and the Scarlet Spider and the Clone Saga are two of them. Either way, I'm about 40-50 issues behind, so I guess I better start reading.

I guess Kaine was more or less healed in Spider Island and is no longer disfigured.etos45 wrote:If I remember Kaine right, he's a pretty buff guy. Does anyone know which issue of Amazing Spider-Man the 8 page new Scarlet Spider story appears in?

No, I have stated several times I have lost all interest in Spider-Man when they started One More Day crap and if Marvel wants a 90s fan like me to return the book then bringing back any of the Clone Saga crap is not helping their cause no matter how good you think it was handled.400yrs wrote:Are you reading ASM? I hated the Clone Saga in 90s because it was stupid then and it's still stupid now.
If Marvel wants me to buy a new Spider-Man comic they will have to kill off orginal version of Peter Parker now because IMHO the character has been destroyed beyond repair.

Re: New Scarlet Spider #1
Well that's harsh. If you kill off Pete, then there really isn't a reason to read anymore. I'd like to see everything from the end of One More Day up until current retconned somehow, make Norman and Harry Osborne dead like they should be, bring MJ back as the wife, and just go back to telling good stories. Basically, the truly unacceptable stuff started when they refused to kill Aunt May at the end of One More Day. She should have died and then you could have had years of stories about Pete trying to cope with how she died because of him. She's like a million years old... COME ON!!!!Cyberstrike wrote:No, I have stated several times I have lost all interest in Spider-Man when they started One More Day crap and if Marvel wants a 90s fan like me to return the book then bringing back any of the Clone Saga crap is not helping their cause no matter how good you think it was handled.400yrs wrote:Are you reading ASM? What made the Clone Saga so unbearable at the time was them trying to say that the Peter most of us grew up with was a clone and trying to replace him with the "real" Peter. That didn't sit well with me and is the reason I quit reading. If you want to create a story where a clone version of Peter is acting like another hero (ala Scarlet Spider), then I'm perfectly okay with that. As long as you don't try to say he's the original Peter Parker.
...and get rid of the Osbornes... did I say that already? Little Normie can be the Green Goblin if they really want it.

Finally figured this out. Marvel's Point 1 is a one-shot, and that's where this story's at.StarBrand wrote:Sometime this month there's supposed to be an 8 page story in Amazing Spider-Man featuring the new Scarlet Spider. It's one of the point 1 issues.

Re: New Scarlet Spider #1
A new interview about this book is up. it says tomorrow (today) they take a look at Scarlet Spider's new home, Houston, Texas. I think it's a great idea to place this character there. Break out some different cities instead of everyone in Marvel's U being headquartered in NY, with the occasional L.A. hero.

Re: New Scarlet Spider #1
I'll admit, Spidey was almost un-readable for so many months. Now that Dan Slott is at the helm, the comic is excellent again. Like I've said before, you can tell he loves and respects the character. JMS and Quesada totally messed him up, but I think they're fixing it now.
As for the Scarlet Spider, it could be interesting. But I won't expect a whole lot out of it until it's on the shelves. Will many people buy it? Maybe, maybe not. For some, they'll need to hear how good it is before they'll fork out money for it.
