Re: War of The Independents
4+ year Lazarus!
The first issue arrived with my DCBS order yesterday. I am ashamed to admit that out of the roughly 200 characters participating in the War of the Independents, I am only familiar with about half of them.
Some of the choices are a bit odd. Cerebus seems particularly qualified to be a general but if I am gathering defenders of the spectrum of realities, Gumby and the rap group Public Enemy would not be high on my list. While Bomb Queen and the Pro might bring something to the table, I doubt that Razorjack would be troubled to know that he is opposed by Critter.
There is a tremendous range of powers in this group. Cassie Hack is just a girl with a knife and Cavewoman doesn't even have a knife. The Crusader, Megaton Man and Shaloman are on close to even footing with Superman, the Tick is in the same weight class without any of the extra powers and Editor Girl could cover what powers the Tick lacks and more.
Nonetheless, I am on board for all of this and quite eagerly. I am probably squarely within the audience this sort of comic is aimed towards.

It was amusing though not a very good read, though with that many characters i didn't expect it to be.
What is impressive is the undertaking of the licensing of all of these characters.

I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.

I bought a copy last week when I saw it on the shelves. I thought this comic was going to have art contributions from each original creator of the independent characters....

Image United part deux?
I bet Image United will end up like Titans: Games and take 20 years to finish.

Re: War of The Independents
They were pretty up front that it was one guy who was drawing it and he just asked permission from the creators to use their characters (I can't imagne doing a jam session with a couple hundred creators). It's very similar in concept to Shi/Cyblade War of the Indepenents back in the 90s, just done a much, much larger scale. I haven't tracked down a copy of War yet but I hope he does as well with everyone's characters as Tucci did back in the 90s.vikingspawn wrote:I bought a copy last week when I saw it on the shelves. A general question: is it hard to find in comicshops? I wasn't even aware it was finally out til I stumbled on it on the web.
