I...can't do it!
I was going to give it go, but the description...effing KILLED IT!
Static Shock (I hate the name change. It's been awhile but it still rubs me )
"Written by SCOTT McDANIEL and JOHN ROZUM Art and cover by SCOTT McDANIEL and JONATHAN GLAPION The brilliant, slightly awkward high school student Virgil Hawkins transforms into the cocky electromagnetic hero Static! A mysterious tragedy forces the Hawkins family to relocate from Dakota to New York City! Virgil embarks upon new adventures in a new high school and a new internship at S.T.A.R. Labs! As Static, he dons a new uniform and establishes a new secret headquarters! But is he ready to take on the new villains who lurk in New York City's underworld? Cover price $2.99."
It... *sigh*
....he just became another generic character...

Re: I...can't do it!
My only exposure to Static was the cartoon, which might have been different than the comic for all I know, and this sounds different from a lot of things I loved about the cartoon (secret headquarters?) so it gets a thumbs down from me too.

Pick up the tpb of the original series from Milestone Media that DC has out (or is coming). One the only ( and the only mainstream comics company I've known to deal with the subject matters they still don't actively deal with on a regular basis even now) to truly handle subject matters that was considered *real*.
Not hyper reality as it is today.

Re: I...can't do it!
It was. And this won't be the Static i knew, but I will give it a try anyway since john Rozum gets respect from me for his greatest Milestone contribution - Xombi.
I suspect the relocation is purely down to DC - it seems they are shedding a few of their fictional cities, and dragging a number of heroes to New York (shades of 60's Marvel in the latter point?) and other 'real' cities; so sans a whole-cloth, own-universe Milestone relaunch (which is unlikely to ever happen since Dwayne McDuffie's passing), then this may be the best we can hope for.
We then have a choice - take it or leave it.
I will give it a try. Milestone has gone, and Milestone Forever was its real coda. This is simply a facsimile of those characters. I have enough nostalgia for them to give those facsimiles a try.

Sounds like a Spider-Man rip-off...
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Surprisingly the book got good reviews - I read it and it was decent, but nowhere near the Milestone character I knew. Reminded me alot of the cartoon though.

Well if you've read John's blog, Static shlock was going to die from the get-go.
I mean, I like SM as an artist, but as a writer... never read anything by him.
All I know is, Static looses an arm? WTFH?!

I think in the Static cartoon or maybe JLU, they showed a future version of the Justice League with a one-armed Static.OmenSpirits.com wrote:Well if you've read John's blog, Static shlock was going to die from the get-go.

He didn't lose an arm. Don't worry.
The series is by no means great. It took me a while (5 months) to try it because I cannot stand Scott McDaniel but it was ok.
