If you send in one comic, it better be worth it! One will prolly set you back $40 or so... I sent in 5 at once one time, and it averaged out to $22 a book, but this was a few years back.

the exact reason why I don't send books in to CGC. I'm sure I could grade well enough to get the grades I expect, but for me, it's just too much initial outlay of cash that there is no guarantee you will recoup if you sell the book.

Here's someone selling the VEI X-O HC for $89.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Valiant-X-O-Manowar ... 9422879991

I haven't been watching these. Is that high or otherwise out of line? Gut instinct tells me that it is.

I still need to get the A&A HC.

I'd say hi, Chiclo. Midtown Comics has it on clearance for $15.00, but I'd have to search eBay to see what it's been running there.

OK so please check this out. I listed this wonder woman #600 1:25 variant for $10. With 3 days left it went to $67 :? They have only one other one for sale for $5.50. I have a bad feeling buyers remorse will set in. I really thought $10 would be a stretch. Any ideas?

That book averages around $40.00 when it sells and depending on the public mood it can fetch up into the high 50s - low 60s or even as low into the 20s. I think with the last issue before the new relaunch, you have new collector's trying to snap up what they missed and its driving the cost up. Enjoy the mood. :thumb:

So the book is selling for far more than you thought it would?

I fail to see the problem.

The only problem is when the buyer realizes that they can buy it for $5.50 then they don't pay.

If they haven't done that yet, it's not a problem yet ;)

Just buy the other one for $5.50, then sell it for $20 again in a month.

Even better! ;)

Then have him tagged as a nonpaying buyer.

When a buyer wins an item or uses Buy It Now to purchase an item, they're obligated to complete the purchase by sending full payment to the seller.

If a buyer doesn't pay within 4 days, sellers can open an unpaid item case in the Resolution Center. If the buyer still doesn't pay or reach some other agreement with the seller, eBay may record the unpaid item on the buyer's account.

When an unpaid item case closes without payment from the buyer, sellers are eligible to receive a final value fee credit to their eBay seller account. Also, if they relist the item and it sells the second time, eBay may refund the insertion fee for the relisting. Learn more about how the free relist policy works.

Excessive unpaid items on a buyer's account may result in range of actions, including limits or loss of buying privileges.

If I may jump back over Iggy's post and tangentially discuss the inexplicable nature of eBay bidders...

I'm all for buyers getting into a bidding war when I have something listed there, even when it is (like the above example) in direct oppostition to, uh, sense. I've had items with Buy It Now prices half of what it eventually sold for, and in some cases the final bid is highe than even Mile High. Bidders should do their research - I do before I list something.

It works in the other direction too. We all see people listing Bloodshot 10's and Turok 3's as rare with BIN at $10.00. Take 2 seconds and type Bloodshot (or Bloodsport) into the search and look for the issue you are trying to sell. I mean, I enjoy this thread, so keep those listings coming, but it's frustrating when you are trying to deal reasonably with someone clearly living in a fantasy world where EVERY comic is a gold mine waiting to happen.

It's not just eBay either. Shop owners do it all the time as well. I had a guy tell me today that he read in the Overstreet Price Guide about a Harbinger #1 CGC selling for $2000, which is true (though was it $2000? I thought it was less); so now he thinks every Valiant comic in his shop is going to sell in that range. This was especially frustrating since I was in there a month ago and pulled 2 VVSS issues that I wanted to buy (Magnus 25 and X-O DB), which he wouldn't sell because he couldn't find them in the guide. So I went back in today and now he's on this Valiant Will Pay For My Retirement kick and yet can't even find the books he set aside for me. Ok, I'm ranting now.

Anyway, back to the high bid topic - not our job to educate everyone shopping or selling on eBay. If they bid $60 and don't pay, you've got excellent advice above. And send the 2nd highest bidder a Second Chance offer - they may not know they could have gotten it for less and be happy to get the issue.

I should have broken this up into more posts to get my count up. :)

Happens with amazon and half.com and other sites. A TPB will sell typically for $10 and some seller will way overprice and list for like $200. Waste of time and space.

Ha! Great article. Wish the algorithms would work against each other in the opposite direction sometime on say a large LCD tv.
