I have really liked all of the Dark Tower books. The mood and feel of the books is a perfect match. (sorta like hellboy)

My only complaint is that I feel more story could be told.

I need to re-read that, one day. Did you ever try Danger Unlimited? It is also by Byrne, from Dark Horse, and lasted 4 VERY good issues. Byrne claimed to have two years of story pretty much written but decided to discontinue it based on orders for the first book.
I read Danger Unlimited and thought it wasn't very good.
I enjoyed it, but I was 13 when I read it. It was very reminiscent of F4, but that is to be expected.

Great I'll pick them up then. I am not a huge King fan though. I have only read the Stand.

I am also going through my Defenders run at the moment. I started at #18 and Im at #92 right now. That starts the DeMattius run. I have got to say though after Steve Gerbers great run the books is pretty bad. There are a few good stories here and there but overall it was very tough getting through some of these stories.

Okay, I really enjoy Fables, and I'm reading the Witches tpb right now. It's making me very uncomfortable. No, not because of any premise within the story, because Baba Yaga refuses to put on a decent shirt! Come on! I get enough of this delivering books to little old ladies who don't always feel the need to get dressed.

Sheesh.

Gonna re-read Pride of Baghdad next.

Hah. You aren't gonna be able to handle Rose, Snow and Totenkinder in the "Rose Red" story, then. It's in TPB, btw.

SPOILERS

Luthor becomes a god from the black ring energy (see previous Action issues). Supes stops him by making him lose all of his power trying to kill him rather than help the universe. Meanwhile a bunch of Doomsday's kidnap the rest of the Superman family (see previous issues of all Superman family titles) and Supes makes his way back. End of MAIN STORY.

The rest is short stories from famous writers. I think the 1 you want to go over again is where Superman sees the suffering of protestors in a middle Eastern country (unnamed I think). Supes flys over and stands dead still with the protestors for 24 hours, doing nothing, before flying back to America. When he gets back to the US the government are up in arms as its been seen as an international incident, Supes reacts and says he'll renounce being an American. The End. Out of contiunity, back up in a special issue.

A youthful Totenkinder is a fetching figure. Having read Witches, you'd know what I mean.

Yeah. I remember, but only vaguely. Guess I'm getting older.

There was something from earlier issues and then in Witches she finished what she was working on and gave it to Beauty and the Beast. It was some weird six legged outfit for their kid.

In a nostalgic mood last night, I read the first 11 chapters of Knightfall. Still holds up decently story-wise, but the art was pretty forgettable. Was really looking forward to the Jim Aparo drawn issues, but sadly, he wasn't at his best form. My favorite single issue has to be the one with Mr. Zsasz. I know it was the 90's but I was really surprised at the body count throughout the entire storyline. Dark stuff.

The letters pages were fun too, seeing as how there was a lot of discussion going on at the time about Batman: Seduction of the Gun. Lot of folks pretty riled up about the stance DC took on firearms and disappointment that part of the profits of the book went to a gun control group.

Two of my favourite current comics are Image books.

The first is Carbon Grey. It's a three issue limited series about a family of sisters with a centuries-long family tie to the Kaiser around the time of World War I. The technology is pretty much in the background but seems considerably more advanced than WWI technology should have been.

The second is Moriarty. I just picked up the first issue last night but I am already hooked. Moriarty has always been one of my favourite characters and they are telling a fun story through him. It is 1914 and since the death of Sherlock Holmes, Moriarty has taken up a new identity and is seeking purpose and direction in life. In a twist of fate, he is working as a detective.

The other comic right now that I am really enjoying is Garth Ennis' Jennifer Blood from Dynamite. This title is pretty rough with lots of mindless violence and occasional nudity. Jennifer Blood leads a double life - a suburban housewife by day and a ruthless and effective killer at night. Pretty much everything one would expect from an Ennis Punisher style book.

Infinite Vacation #2 - This book may be the one that I'm looking forward to coming out the most.

If you want something different, try this mini. It's kind of like Total Recall on crack.

This weeks jazz:

Fables #105: SPOILERS

I have been enjoying this arc but this issue made no sense really. The whole North Wind changes his mind nonsense didn't float with me and the whole superhero team thing now seems to be forgotten because of this. We are going to get none of the fights that were lining up and probably another run away moment. Hopefully I'm wrong but this issue was not great for me. Although I do love what Dark has been doing with that fat Fable he recruited. Methinks things are going to go bad for her.

Batman & Robin #23:

Good fun issue, The Red Hood is one bad mother hubbard. Judd Winnick seems to know how to write the Red Hood. Not much more to say on this one apart from the fact I'm really looking forward to the rest of the arc.

I've still got 3 to read this week:

Gates of Gotham #1 - A Scott Snyder mini on the history of Gotham and Batman, looks ace.

Booster Gold #44 - 1st Flashpoint tie-in issue and my shop forgot to order any for customers. DUH. Ordered online and on its way. It was the book I was looking forward to reading most this week too.

Batman #710 - Apparently Two Face is back according to the cover... didn't realise he'd been anywhere.

Venom #2. I didn't like this. It tried to be too cerebral. Not what I expected to read at all.

Possible spoilers:

After reading Witches and now Rose Red, which included issue #100, all I can say is, big whoop. It took 12 trades to get through the one main story, and then the Dark Man shows up, devastates Fabletown and then the entire thing is pretty much done in 2 trades? Should have left him in that gold statue.

I'm not all that excited about the new direction. Nurse Spratt and the Dark Man together? Whoop dee doo. Should have kept that a secret for a big reveal later.

The nurse spratt stuff is getting pretty interesting.

ONLY 2 trades strikes me as being quite funny. Thats like 12 issues plus a 100 page special and over a year of comics. Just goes to show how different reading things in issues and trade can make you feel.

I enjoyed those issues. I wonder if they feel more rushed as a trade, because part of what I loved about them as monthlies was that the old pacing seemed to have returned. I was a little let down by how easily things got resolved, until I thought about it and realized they weren't really all that simple. In fact, I think Ozma planned it all and wants to take over. For some reason, I see her hand in everything.

I've enjoyed it for the most part. Rose Red's story was interesting...the current storlyline looks promising and I'm glad Frau Totenkinder didn't dispatch the Dark Man as easily as first appeared.

Last night I read SHIELD infinity. Something of a fill-in but I'm certainly enjoying the historical characters and references.
*Spoiler*
Any book that has a Kree Sentry fighting one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world needs checked out :thumb:

I enjoyed Eternal Warrior for similar reasons back in the day....something enticing about tying these heroes into real historical characters or settings.
