How Many and Which Titles Should the New Valiant Lead With?

Post by rjrjr »

I would like to see 4 titles at first:

X-O Manowar
Shadowman
Bloodshot
Harbinger

I believe the above 4 titles are the strongest titles in the line.

The next 4 titles would be:

Armorines
Ninjak
Rai
Eternal Warrior

The final 4 titles would include:

Timewalker
Archer & Armstrong
PSILords
HARD Corps

I'd like to see the line work up to 12 titles over the course of 2 years.

I would like to see Quantum & Woody as one of the first titles. I really enjoyed that series.

I really would like to see Joshua Fireseed as well - just don't call him the T-Word.

And as far as the other A-V Characters - Troublemakers would be the only other one I would be interested in seeing print again.

While I liked Quantum and Woody, that title is not one I would want to see in the shared Valiant universe. As a standalone title, not connected to the other titles in any way, I'd definitely be interested however.

I like your idea about Joshua Fireseed. I can see using some of the Troublemakers characters in the Harbinger title.

I liked the concept behind both versions of X-O Manowar (a barbarian out of time inheriting the X-O Manowar suit and a military person inheriting the suit), but I hope they go with the barbarian.

I thought Valiant had some of the best villains (spider aliens, Master Darque, Dr. Eclipse, Harada) so if the new Valiant had an anthology for some of the characters that cannot support their own title, I'd love to see some of these characters get featured.

Although it could be worked in, I tend to agree that I'd rather see it separately. This is scary since I think it was MOTA's idea, but I'd almost like to see it exist as a cartoon inside the VEI universe.

I would include Archer & Armstrong in the second group.

It's a much stronger title than Ninjak or Armorines in my opinion.

Not a bad list - but I'd reorganize somewhat...

Include A & A in the first set.

Drop a few down (or out). I'd prefer six-eight strong titles vs 12 mediocre ones.

How about this?

Quantum & Woody
Shadowman
Rai
Harbinger

X-O Manowar
Eternal Warrior
Bloodshot
Ninjak

The End?

(Drop Armorines, PSI-Lords, HARDCorps, Timewalker)

Good lists.

Eternal Warriors
X-O
Shadowman
Harbingers - Focus on them as a whole rather than follow one group. Interweaving arcs, maybe? Should mainly be about Harada.
Rai (if a future story is needed)
Quantum & Woody as a cartoon in the VEIU

Since VEI mentioned that they were going with a Batman Begins feel, I'd like to see a book about the Eternal Warrior(s) Ivar taking Archer on a trip over what had happened in the VU previously.

As much as I loved him, I'd rather not see a title based on Aram. He is supposedly gone if they stick with continuity.

I'm not sure a comics line could return and have the support for 8 titles.

So going out the gate with the most marketable HAS to be the way to go right now.

X-O Manowar
Shadowman
Harbinger
Bloodshot/EW/A&A

I really don't think Rai is a monthly book I just dont.

After things are settled in

Q&W (a MUST)
Ninjak
Eternal Family Book (you could do a quarterly book with the Family various stories featuring all those characters not getting a book or just featuring them in a different way)

I agree on having a smaller core group of titles early on, but have a lot of supporting characters involved in those titles, which can spin off as the company grows.

It really depends on who the talent is and what kind of changes they are making to the characters. I have GINORMOUS interest in Bob Hall doing Shadowman and Priest/Bright doing Q&W. Put other creators on those books and my interest wanes.

That being said, I'd like to see them start with:
Shadowman
XO Manowar
Harbinger
Eternal Warrior

To me, that covers a good bit of the universe. The remaining characters could be worked into the stories in those books, popularity gaged, and new books launched. Start small with those core books, then expand.

But I have to say, I am very interested to see how they might be revising characters. It's possible a character that was a tier 2 or 3 character (like Ninjak or Rai) could become a major player.

When I try to pick out a few titles, I end up with at least 12 that I want to see, which is of unrealistic.

Harbinger and Rai (the original one, though the other one does have the advantage of being connected to Bloodshot) would be my favorites. X-O was not my favorite, but seems like a given. After that there are so many to pick from.

Harbinger
and
X-O

would almost certainly be 2 of the first 4, probably Shadowman as well.

The 4th could be a toss up between Bloodshot, Eternal Warrior and Archer & Armstrong. Then Rai also in the next wave.

Btw, like the love given to Q&W :thumb:

Start with 4 titles and then add one every 6 months IF things are going well.

or...

Start

Bloodshot
Eternal Warrior

3 months later
X-O
Harbinger

3 months later
Shadowman
A&A

3 months later
Q&W
Ninjak

:?

Wow, surprising to see that Rai is barely getting any mention.

Rai on his own, without being part of Magnus' world, doesn't interest me much. Not to say that someone couldn't come up with a way to MAKE it interesting. Just out of the gate it wouldn't be one of my choices.

Yea surprising, personally I'd love to see Rai kick things off with X-O, Eternal Warrior, A&A and the Harbinger crew.

I think the minimum they should start with 4. One for each week of the month. That way it at least helps boost the brand if every Wednesday customers see another Valiant book on the shelves. If it's just one, they'd likely not draw much attention and or be forgotten about.

Hopefully Shadowman and Eternal Warrior are two of them. :)

I don't think that Rai has enough of a broad-spectrum appeal (outside die-hard Valiant fans) to be a viable monthly title. Those first 10 or so original issues were OK, but they were far, far from my favs.

I agree with Heath that much depends upon the caliper of talent VEI has lined up for these titles. For me, if they can get BWS to write and draw A&A then that should positively be in the first wave of releases.

If Bob Hall is lined up to do Shadowman again, heck yea...put that out front. Otherwise....maybe not.

Without knowing the creative teams on the titles, my gut feeling is to start slow and come out with:

- Bloodshot
- X-O
- Harbinger

I would definitely deep-six any ideas of bringing back Psi-Lords, Armorines, and Hard Corps. They're just not strong enough titles and won't survive in today's fickle comic climate.

Second wave, I'd go with:

- Shadowman (if no Bob Hall)
- A&A

If VEI can get a good creative team, perhaps Ninjak and Eternal Warrior. Would love to see the original team on Q&W.
