Top 10 Relaunch things you DON'T want...
Moderators: Daniel Jackson, greg
OUTstanding, I walk away for a few hours and come back to check the thread to see some good responses BUT as usual I don't ask a complete question.
I should have asked not only to name what are the Top 10 Relaunch things you DON'T want and explain WHY you don't want them. I am trying to solicite more than just 'penguins'. I am interested in (and I am sure that others are interested as well) the 'why' you don't want 'penguins' back in the Relaunch.
So if you can expound upon the 'why' in your responses, that would be great !

You mean like back in the initial Valiant days where there were skinny characters, chunky characters, fat chicks and the buff characters as well but a realistic sampling of how people look in real life ?Elveen wrote:I don't want unrealistic looking bodies for the characters.
Make the peeps look somewhat normal.
Hardly ever seen but how about a skinny guy who was very strong ?
How about a chubby dude who was fast ?
Of course cool looking heroic figures but again not all 'powered' people were fitness models.

1. Delays. Books to come out on time all the time please.
2. Poor creative teams for the sake of getting books out.
3. Too many books too soon for the sake of a piece of the pie.
4. Variants that are impossible price wise for us hardcore fans to purchase, or that are made in such small quantities that only people who earn $50k a year can think about buying.
5. Secrecy. Now we seem to be on a roll can we please keep the info coming.
6. Creators who we all agree made books/characters look bad to stay the hell away.
7. The wrong mix of what came before i.e vh1, 2 & 3 combined.
8. Lack on non orderable premiums i.e we want old school premiums
given away to those who promote Valiant again for those who will never be able to afford $75 for 1:100 retailer variants.
9. Lack of presence at cons.
10. i thought finding 10 things was gonna be hard and it was.

make comics great first then anything that comes after will be based on product that is sellable and noted as quailty.ian_house wrote:Films
Video Games
Other Merchandise
Make some comics not merchandise.
Video games im not fussed about, but something that is a possibilty again.
Other merchandise could be ok, if they take it slow, some t-shirts and basic accessories would make me a happy bunny.
i could def walk around with a Valiant bag of sorts.

Jim Shooter - monthly comic address - November, 1991."VALIANT is a company owned and run by creative people. It's a rockin' good place to work. We're entertainers. We don't pre-bag our books, do multiple versions, or try to convince people that issues with millions of copies preserved in plastic are valuable collector's items. We're not the Franklin Mint. We want people to read our work."

I like Jim's statement. I don't know how he can say they didn't do multiple versions though. Under his leadership they did some gold books and a second print of Solar 10kevinbastos wrote:Jim Shooter - monthly comic address - November, 1991."VALIANT is a company owned and run by creative people. The Golds were GIVE AWAYS, they didnt make a dime off of them. The Solar II was supply & demand, it was also such a key book it was neccessary to make it available to everyone who wanted a copy at the time.

I don't believe that Jim was still around at the time of the Solar #10 second printing.MoonChild wrote:The Golds were GIVE AWAYS, they didnt make a dime off of them. The coloring that VEI used in the hardcovers. I don't know exactly what they did for the coloring, but I really didn't like it. Just use computer coloring like all books nowadays.
Now to fill in some of my previous one word answers:
- Deathmate - no mention of it at all, please.
- Valiant Vision - I hate anything 3D. It just gives me a headache.
- Dr. Eclipse - This is probably one of the lamest bad guys ever and they used him everywhere.
- Fabien Nicieza - This is the only writer that I avoid anything he does. His writing often infuriates me. He is like a shock jock writer in comics. His worst offense was what he did in a short story in Noble Causes. It was completely out of the books' element and was not necessary. It involved a character getting raped. WTF? Asseclowne.

I totally agree there. Something about the coloring on ALL the books did not sit right with me. There felt like a 'lack of the color blue' or 'something' that did not look right to me.400yrs wrote:The coloring that VEI used in the hardcovers. I'm split on the process they used. I think it was much improved by the time A&A came along. In a way, it brought the books to life in a different way. I'm not saying that is a good or bad thing, but I sort of liked what they were going for, even if I almost agree with you that it wasn't quite there yet.Knightt wrote:I totally agree there. I haven't seen the hardcovers so I can't comment on that but I will say that computer coloring is one of the things I really dislike about modern comics. It hurts my eyes because it's so obviously artificial. So I'd have to say it's something I don't want to see in the relaunch.400yrs wrote:The coloring that VEI used in the hardcovers.
