From what I've seen from "the media" about the recent SDCCs... they are not comic conventions. They are Hollywood movie promotions, TV studio promotions, other entertainment promotions. I see all the panel discussions for TV shows and other non-comic book related projects and think, why bother going at all?
Do comic book dealers actually make it to the show to sell stuff?
From the outside looking in, it looks like the "Golden Age" of the SDCC is long gone.

The two booths at the center of the convention are Marvel and DC. And these booths are probably a quarter city block in size. Ringing around the two booths are Image, Dark Horse, IDW, and the other big comic publishers. Around the fringes of the center you will run into promotions for movies and tv show promotions with varying degrees of nerd pedigrees. Every aspect of the comic book industry and comic book collecting industry is represented there in spades, people just don't film the small press area and artists alley and put them on YouTube.Unblessed wrote:From what I've seen from "the media" about the recent SDCCs... they are not comic conventions. Make sure you brush up on your "all things Valiant", I will have some harder questions this year.
We will definitely, absolutely, play cards this year!

I would say it's both, but more of a convention. A lot of entertainment business is taking place though at the satellite parties and lunches and in the suites in the Hotels though.IMJ wrote:Really, the SDCC event is a trade show and not a convention.Unblessed wrote:From what I've seen from "the media" about the recent SDCCs... they are not comic conventions.
I would estimate about 1/4-1/3 of the show is allocated to independent comic and art dealers on the north end of the building. The show is huge though, and if someone is on one end of the building on Sat/Sun and you meet in the middle, it takes about 20-30 minutes to meet up with all the crowds.

I think I look forward to Poker/Trivia Night more than the Con.

I agree Greg, we had a great time at your place last year. It is very gracious for your wife to have us there, especially since you have a new addition this year.Blood of Heroes wrote:Elveen wrote:Poker game AND Valiant Jeopardy will be on Thurs.chainnball wrote:so is the poker game still on for thursday night? Not in 1981. Although there were claims of an independent Texas state at that time and continuing to this day, these claims are not legitimate.UnknownTales wrote:Texas was its own country for awhile...
The plot thickens.

I demand he show his birth certificate to prove he's a citizen, or forfeit his first place showing.![]()
He is a Texan first...maybe that disqualifies him.

Sure, but how do we know you were born in 1981 and not 1836? You could have Benjamin Button disease or something.Chiclo wrote:Not in 1981. I think we have the right to see the long form birth certificate!

Perhaps your claim would hold some merit if I were an elected official or actively campaigning to hold public office. Missed it by 6 months.Blood of Heroes wrote:Sure, but how do we know you were born in 1981 and not 1836? You could have Benjamin Button disease or something.Chiclo wrote:Not in 1981.
