Wizard 21 Flashback

Post by kryptonitecomics »

I was digging through a box of old coin, comic, and Baseball card price guides when I came across some of my early issues of Wizard. I thought it might be fun to post some of the prices and market reports of when Valiant was on it's way to the top.

I now present to you a Blast from the Past Production of Wizard #21 from May of 1993:

If any of you find this interesting or of any value I also have copies of Wizard #26 & #28 that show even higher Valiant prices and I would be happy to post them as well???

The prices in issue #26 are even higher :o :o :o :o

I agree that I don't remember the gold and platinum issues going for that much back then, but I sure do remember the Pre-unity books being worth their weight in Gold!!!!

You can even see some of the checkmarks I placed next to certain issues as I picked up copies for my collection some 11 years ago :D :D :D

I remember when Unity first began; I was at my local shop picking up my on-hold comics when I first saw the Unity 1 Platinum and gold books, I think I paid $50 for the pair. The next local comic show I was the only one that had em! They promptly sold for $300 for the pair! Unfortunately, I was never able to replace them until just 4 months ago when I purchased 3 of each from a shop I visited for a grand total of $20!
I sure wish I had those extra 6 copies waaaaay back when....

hey the unity red price is still right! funny to see the platinum and gold be more!

also-why does it say D:Geoff in ew #2? weird. rai zero was already out-so they knew he din't really die.

and the x-o four looks cheap! no mention of 1: jack boniface! i remember that being a $60 book while #1 was only $20...am i right?

I don't remember xo 4 being quite that much, but during the coupon deadline I do remember Harbinger 4 selling for much more than the #1 as there didn't seem to be a lot of copies around and that was the one people needed to fill out there set.

thanks for making me feel really really old. but I will tell you this, even though we are hardcore valiant collectors and we never plan on selling our books, I really hope we see those days again. its nice to see that we have comics that are worth big buck (just for self satisfaction)
but even if my magnus 12 was worht 50,000 you would still have to pry it out of my dead hands
I await the day valiants will be on the top 10 list again :)

Meanwhile, on the non-Valiants listed...

Superman #66:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... eName=WDVW

Spawn #4:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 04168&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 36813&rd=1

For the most part, most of the Spawn #4s in the completed auctions I saw were included in Spawn lots. There was a lot that had Spawn #1-5 and the Hot Wheels Spawnmobile that ended at $5. An auction for Spawn #1-4 and 50 ended at $8. There was an issue of #4 autographed by McFarlane that went for $14, though.

Simpsons Comics and Stories:

One auction ended at $12:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 19034&rd=1

And here's one that ended at $0.01:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 88353&rd=1

But it usually goes for around $1-3 from the other completed auctions listed.

MORAL: Yeah, it's risky to speculate on comics, all right.

Perhaps the lowest moment in my life was when I had to seperate with a good deal of my comics to dig myself out of a debt hole. The only good thing was that I got $300 for my Harbinger #0 and #1 combined.

So yeah, prices where insane back in the day.
