Back in the early ’90s Cost Con was the comic con for me, living in Southern Louisiana.

I think the con has become more sci-fi and gaming focused, but could be fun to attend—especially since I’m working on a Doctor Who, Seventh Doctor costume.

It is doubtful that I’ll stay for the whole weekend, but I’ll probably check out the merchant room on Saturday.

Check out the site for more: http://www.coastcon.org/

Pricing as follows:
Pre-registration
$35.00 for the full weekend—a $10.00 savings from the at the door price

At the Door Prices
Weekend - $45
Friday - $25
Saturday - $35
Sunday - $25
Hobbit (8 yrs old or younger) - free
Merchant Room Only - $15
Friday or Saturday Dance Only - $10

It doesn't sound like they will have much, if anything in the way of comics. If you're cool with that going in, have a good time! :thumb:

Not expecting much in the way of comics and two of the comic dealers are local shops anyway.

Really, this would be just an excuse to drive out to the Mississippi gulf coast (not much more than 1hr away) and visit with family and friends.

If the con turns out to be a total waste of time and money, I’ll know better next year.

Sanman, check out BayouCon (formerly known as ConDuLac) too. It's a small con, mostly sci-fi and gaming, not much comics. I've been the last two years (two years ago was their first year). This year they're having a Doctor Who costume contest.

One of my best friends from high school lives in the Lake Charles area and we meet up for that con each year. If it weren't for that, I doubt I would go this year.

You told me about this last year—might be fun, better website than CoastCon’s at least. However, I’m sorta stretched with cash since Wizard’s Comic Con. Will mark the date, you never know.

I had considered attending the Heroes Convention in Charlotte (my best friend has family we might be able to stay with), but so far I'm underwhelmed with most of the guest list.

The only notable guest, IMHO, is Bernie Wrightson. I need a few more high profile creators to justify the trip.

Not bad. I have a chance to pick up some of his Swamp Thing issues, in fairly high grade at rather amazing prices. Love his work.

I love Wrightson’s work too. If I had the chance to meet him, I would at least bring the Batman: Cult set and Swamp Thing HC. I’d probably want a commission too—Swamp Thing.

Well, Coast Con is this weekend. My best friend and I have decided to at least hit the merchant room Saturday morning and then go from there.

At the very least we will be supporting our two LCS friends and I’ll be trying to promote the Doctor Who sweater vest project with the Doctor Who fans and CosPlay goers. With a little luck (and a sweet looking flyer) maybe I’ll pick up a few buyers.

I will be at the con all weekend. Last year I lucked out and got a Armorines vol 2 #4 from a dealer for a super cheap price.

I'm Tim and I'll be wearing my seventh Doctor hat while promoting the sweater vest fan project.

Be sure to introduce yourself if you see me.

Cool,I am Newt. Just got back from day one. There is about 3 booths with comics. One of them has about 20 longboxes,in alphabetical order, and it is 40 comics for 20 bucks. I just pulled a complete run of Shadowman vol 2 and Magnus Acclaim run. Plus plenty of other Valiants. The big easy comics booth, had plenty of more current comics for various prices. Plus he has some of the old Valiant tpbs,No Magnus/Predators :(. I picked up the Shadowman one today for $5. The dealer was a very nice guy, told me he has plenty of Valiant comics at his store in Mandeville LA. "Most of them are a quarter each, but I do have a few of the later issues that might be a bit more." I might have to check his store out on my way home on monday.

I will be there tomorrow ,most likely around 11am. Will look around and try to find you.

Big Easy Comics is my LCS. Glad you had a good experience buying from Steve. The store is worth the stop—but be prepared with a want list as they have to pull back issues.

Sounds like a great day one. :thumb:

I hope the rest of the weekend was just as fun—was great meeting ya newt!

I only stayed for a few hours as my friend was ready to go, but I could have stayed longer talking to friends, etc. Next year, as long as I still have guys to hang out with, I’ll probably stay for the full convention—maybe the merchant room will better too.
