Greed. they won't get the licensing $$$ they want. What is the motivation for any company to purchase the license to Valiant when it has a negative reaction to most collectors and no reaction from their common casual demographic?MoonChild wrote:Great research Leon, really puts things into prospective. Makes me wonder why they don't just license the comic side over to Dark Horse or something, this way they can concentrate on those other media ventures.
Honestly, if I were a big company such as Marvel or DC, I'd just plagarize knowing that it would probably cost less to put the current owners into default through litigation than to rent or even purchase the product. If they even want them that bad.

A Solar HC would have sold a lot better than Archer & Armstrong. You can still find the first 10 A&A issues for $1 each. Hell, I've seen some of the first 10 A&A issues in 25-cent bins in various comic shops.StarBrand wrote:You can't put a run of Solar 1-10 together on eBay for 35.00 including shipping, and probably not close to it. The Alpha And Omega trade only reprints the origin back-up stories. I think the first 10 Solars reprinted in archive format would sell well. I don't think that storyline is considered crap by many.400yrs wrote:Ebay.StarBrand wrote:Where can I pick up the early Shooter Solar stories cheap?400yrs wrote:I doubt it. All that stuff is still very easily attainable through trades or singles.StarBrand wrote:It seems if VEI has the rights to reprint the early Solar and Magnus stories in archive format, they would be sure-fire winners.
Solar, on the other hand, has the first 10 issues being far more expensive.
I was waiting on the HC reprinting of Solar, but it looked like it wasn't going to be made so I relented and bought the back-issues. It cost me around $45 for the first 10 issues, and they were all missing a card/coupon. Also, a few of the issues were not in mint condition.......Not that the card/coupon means anything to me, but having one increases the value, so that's kind of an indication of how much early Solar issues sell for.
IMO, they made a big mistake in releasing an A&A hardcover, and not Solar.
I bought the X-O & Harbinger hardcover releases, but didn't bother with A&A.

This is true. The problem is, they don't own the rights to Solar.Savant wrote:

There is a very good reason that they were ALL missing the cards and coupons.Savant wrote:

I think that their biggest mistake was not announcing that Jim Shooter was working for them.Savant wrote:

the second biggest mistake [imo] was not releasing at least one book during his time there and capitalizing on not only his name/presence/ and association with them, but also the momentum that the HCs generated.
Welcome to the board!
Oh, and I was being a bit of a smart aleck, but the Solar books didn't come with cards or coupons originally.

That certainly explains the lack of a hardcover release. I don't feel as bad over having bought the back-issues now.
Didn't know about the coupons not being in Solar issues. I assumed they were, because an online comic store has in their description of early Solar issues, "Missing card/coupon."
It definitely would've been cool to see a new released penned by Shooter. I guess I'll assume all they paid him for was the few extra pages in each HC release.dave wrote:I think that their biggest mistake was not announcing that Jim Shooter was working for them.

Speaking of Shooter, how are the books he's doing with Dark Horse? I impulsively ordered back-issues of the first 3 issues of the new Solar comic, just to check it out. They certainly seem to have nice cover art (Same with the new Magnus comic).

The new DH books are decent so far, but they are very sloppy at getting the books out on time. Here is a section of the board where we talk about the new DH line in case you want to know more.Savant wrote: Speaking of Shooter, how are the books he's doing with Dark Horse? WHEW!!!! I was honestly starting to thing that I had been secretly jipped all of these coupons as well!Daniel Jackson wrote:Welcome to the board, Savant. Dave is right, those Solar issues you picked up never had coupons in the first place. Valiant only did the coupon/card thing with Harby and Magnus.
