A few pictures from New Orleans Wizard Comic Con
I’ve been busy with other things, and am only now posting my pictures from the New Orleans Wizard Comic Con. I apologize in advance that I didn’t take many pictures of star guests or people in costume.
The highlight of the con was meeting Ethan Van Sciver. The first day he sketched in my Absolute Green Lantern: Rebirth HC...

...and signed a few comics—all at no charge!

On the second day, I commissioned Ethan Van Sciver to illustrate a Green Lantern Batman

I did get to see Adam West and Burt Ward, 16X20 Photo signed by the dynamic duo

Assorted comics that were signed at the con...
Phil Jimenez: Superman Batman #32 (sketch and signature)

Derec Donovan: Robin Annual #7
Yanick Paquette: Return of Bruce Wayne #3 and Batman Incorporated #2

Kevin Maguire: Justice League #6
Michael Golden: Batman Special #1 and Detective #625

Philip Tan: Batman & Robin #4-6
Cameron Stewart: Batman & Robin #7-9

Mike Grell: Batman #289, Warlord #1, Starslayer #6 and Sable #1 & #21

David Mack: Kabuki #1
Bill Sienkiewicz: Elektra Assassin #1 & 6

A few local guys who have done fairly well, Steven Butler, Mitch Byrd and Roland Mann: Cat & Mouse

Ray Park, very cool guy and my only shot taken at a panel

You know you’re in New Orleans when the Doctor is a Saints fan...

…and the event closes with a sci-fi Mardi Gras parade—good times!

Thanks for looking, please feel free to post comments.

Indeed it was. Despite disliking Wizard, I will tell you that Shamus can put on a fun show. I was completely busy from the opening hour till things shut down Sunday afternoon.
Keep in mind this is the first sizable con I’ve been to and other attendees were not quite so impressed, but I would recommend going if one comes near you.
Additionally, Wizard charged students only $5 a day, and I still had my university ID from grad school—$10 for the weekend for me!
Some initial thoughts...
The artist gallery was impressive. To my delight just about all of the guys that I brought comics to sign were extremely friendly and signed as much as I had for free.
The only exception was Mike Grell who charged $1 after the first book, but I think that was more to deter being brought huge stacks of comics. However, to his defense he and I talked comics for at least 10 minutes—class act guy. Moreover, his panel was awesome!
Ethan Van Sciver couldn’t have been cooler—partly what prompted the commission once I had thoroughly gone through the dealer’s area and had some money left.
Unfortunately, I found Adam West, my childhood hero, and his manager, Frank, to be a pair of jerks. Burt Ward was very appreciative and more than generous with his time.
Ray Park, was the most fun and gracious person I’ve ever met. I’m not exaggerating, the man spent at 4-5 minutes with each fan—making conversation and taking pictures. This did make the wait time extremely long but once you got to meet with Park it was well worth it.
The merchant area was very nice. I saw lots of vintage books with sellers ready to make deals, multiple copies of many big key issues, vintage toys such as MEGO, and then many sellers with modern book bins ready to sell cheaply in bulk. All the shop owners that I knew said they did quite well—far better than what they had expected.
And the costumes were great too. I will not go into much detail here, as I didn’t take any pictures. But, I have been encouraged to put a Doctor Who costume together for next year.
