Mighty Samson #2
With Shooter having said they have diabolical plans for this line, which seem to include something to do with Dr Solar and Mighty Samson, with a hint of what's to come being in Mighty Samson #2 (thanks for the heads up on this, jridd) I thought I'd get a jump start and start a thread on Mighty Samson #2. Just in case.

'My' copy did not show up at my LCS... I also have a copy coming from DCBS but I don't know when it will show up.
Until then... I can't comment but I sure will when I am able to read this bad boy. I am VERY eager to read it as JC Vaughn has more show here.
And man, I am REALLY wanting to read it.... BAH going INsane.

Bummer. You will love this issue. It and Mags 3 are very good.Knightt wrote:'My' copy did not show up at my LCS... I also have a copy coming from DCBS but I don't know when it will show up.

On the whole I liked it. This series has the potential to be the best in the series.
I was a bit bummed that things progressed so quickly at the end, because I was enjoying that guy's daughter playing antagonist to Samson. A bit too much repetition as well. We already knew that the bad guy was a scumbag who wants to take glory while hiding in the shadows. Also the bit about the finger was mentioned two more times in this ish.
Of course, that has been the best moment in any of these comics thus far, but...
Yeah, thumbs up!

I don't get why this board isn't THRILLED about Magnus. It's like we have a new series that is brand new comics from pre-Unity Magnus.Second_Death wrote:Bummer. You will love this issue. The other 3 titles I can see how people feel there's a mixed bag (although I like the one issue of Turok) but I challenge anyone to collect the first three issues of Magnus now that we finally have a story arc after 6 months and say they're not as good or better than almost all Valiant Magnus.
To be honest, I kind of hope one of the other books fans out a little and they go to 3 titles or 3 titles and Magnus one shots and mini-series as DH often does because I can see him being the franchise character that propels this line to something successful and long running.
If there were a big black and white photo of Shooter's face in the back pages of DH Magnus we'd be back in pre-Unity Valiant days.

I agree this is easily the best Magnus has been since the Asylum saga in Magnus 13-14, with the exception of the Shooter plotted #20. No one quite gets the character like Jim.Knob wrote: I don't get why this board isn't THRILLED about Magnus. It's like we have a new series that is brand new comics from pre-Unity Magnus.
As for Samson, I also enjoyed this issue. I can't believe no one has mentioned the possible major weave event in the last panel!
SPOILER
Was that Atom Valley labs that Sunder discovers? He said he's travelling north, which would be the right direction from NYC to get there. Also mentioned as a possible source for the mutations?! We might be seeing a crossover sooner than we thought

I forgot to add, the cover is absolutely gorgeous in print! So eyecatching!! get it while you can.
Well my LCS stiffed me on this comic AND Magnus #3. No biggie once my DCBS order is up to speed, I will cut bait on this turd. I can't stand not being able to read this book on the day it it supposed to come out. I wish that the Dark Horse digital store was up and running, I would pick it AND a hard copy.

YES! I feel exactly the same way. There was no way in hell I was going to be the first to type "This is better than Valiant Magnus" on the valiantfans message board, but now that you've opened that box...Knob wrote:Second_Death wrote:I don't get why this board isn't THRILLED about Magnus. This is a thousand times more fun, exciting, and interesting than post Shooter Magnus. If quality keeps up after a few more issues, I'll rank it on par with pre-Unity Magnus too!

I think its better than Post-Unity Magnus but I still like Pre-Unity Magnus is better. Not saying that it cannot get better cause I believe it will!

Yeah I don't know about that. Steel Nation is one of the best stories I've ever read and Art Nichols art is beyond anyone save Russ Manning himself. Nichols brought the art to a new level with a great deal of respect to the source material. I am enjoying Magnus and I think there are many neat new elements, but we have a ways to go before it will be on the level of Steel Nation.
Just for kicks, I read all three Magnus number ones when the new series started. I'm not sure if its intentional but it really felt as if Jim was trying on a new writing style. What was before thought out with a clear narrative had become a fast paced highlight reel. I enjoyed it, but more for the ideas behind it and less for the execution. These later Magnus books seem to have slowed the pace a bit, as if he has gotten back into the groove of story telling. Just my two cents

I think it would be hard for anybody to touch Steel Nation as far as Magnus stories go. Invasion is also a classic with the introduction of Rai, but doesn't match SN. I think DK Magnus is getting close to matching the non-SN pre-Unity Valiants.orbitalshift wrote:Yeah I don't know about that. At the very least it feels like Magnus again, and it seems to be getting better each issue. I'm excited to see where it goes as Jim's bound to start re-introducing some of Magnus' rouges gallery at some point.
(Why aren't we discussing this in the Magnus thread

Very cool. Not sure I agree, as I have never done what you did to get there-but I love seeing other people doing this kinda stuff to "go deeper" with books.orbitalshift wrote: Just for kicks, I read all three Magnus number ones when the new series started.
