I looked into a rough draft of a checklist and it looks pretty manageable. I've only got a handful so far.Knightt wrote:Oh no, you are not dragggingggg.... mmeeeee... into.... thiiiissssaaaaaarrrrrrrrggghhhhhh.... no no NO
There are lots of nude editions... not sure how I feel about that, but the Perg and Judgment Day stuff has got me thinking.
Yeah I have a few as well, but not too keep on nude editions just to have nude editions. It is almost as if my collection will lose some respectability if I include them. I want a collection to where my kids can look through it someday and not have a WTF moment.Chiclo wrote:I looked into a rough draft of a checklist and it looks pretty manageable. I might have mentioned this before, but my brother was on the Lightning books as an artist when he lived in New York in # 93, but never actually did anything in the end.
All the other companies were not even looking at his work, crazy time to try and get into the industry.
Lightning were funny as they were so close to the bottom of the pile when it came to quality of art and storytelling, though something about the look of the books wasnt that shocking.
I have a pretty good selection of these.
If anyone has nude covers and want to hide them from prying eyes then just slot a backer in the front as well.

I remember drawing the Perg as a youth based only on the ads from mags and distributor catalogs.
I didn't actually get an issue of Perg though until a dime box a few years ago.
Disappointing as far as the artwork goes, sub-Triumphant.
Though I did enjoy finding the multiple editorials in the book (Perg #4) that stressed that Lightning would NEVER print more than 250,000 copies of any first printing to preserve collectibility.

250,000 print run nowadays is almost unheard of for any print.Triumphant Serial Number wrote:I remember drawing the Perg as a youth based only on the ads from mags and distributor catalogs.

yeah, those were the days.
There's celebratory exclamations in the book over how Bloodfire #1 had orders for 50,000. But the Lightning Comics honchos weren't going to let it go to their head, they were in it for the little guy. No first printing more than a quarter million, and a 2 year second print moratorium.
Expensive too. Perg #4 has a cover of $2.95, non-gimmick. Even Continuity's hyper gimmicks of the same era were only $2.50, and had much nicer looking artwork. Maybe not any more readable, but much, much nicer.

[quote="sbcomics"]I actually think it's been a while since any book has sold 250,000! Trying to think what the last one would have been. Civil War?[/quote
A very important point that i have seen pop up multiple times of recent.
I had read about an indy title being cancelled due to lack of orders at 80,000, which of course today would be godsend.
I wonder how many indy books get over 10k now.
