16,782 books so far.
well we do know of one guy that used to shred Dr. Mirage books and use them for packing material...
And don't forget all of the Turok books that have been used to protect other books during shipping....
I knew I shouldn't have gotten rid of the box of Turok #1's...

Valiant Reading Set

Post by Billy Walker »

Did anyone notice if the set of Valiants up on ebay a week or two ago for $995 sold. I think it had an almost complete run of the regular issues. No variants or maybe a few scattered.
Thanks,
Billy

I didn't bother to see whether it sold or not, but I ran across it. I doubt if it was picked up.

The below is the analysis I did back in January for pricing on books. I've broken out my most recent sale of the entire VH1 set below the table so you can gauge where 2011 pricing is. Mind you this sale was very aggressive and could be considered a fire sale. For those who were not checking out the buy/sell thread, this was not auction style and based on a few mark downs to help encourage a complete sale. Enjoy!

Current Sept 2011 Statistics (price does not include shipping charges):

Regular Run (includes Valiant Voices): $593
Golds: $191
Platinums: $1,608
VVSS: $803
Price Variant Newsstands: $131
Non Price Variant Newsstands (87 Unique Issues): $208
TPB's: $482
Reds & Pinks: $137
Deathmate Previews: $30

Total: $ 4,183

Where everything landed based on the above excel file:

Regular Run (includes Valiant Voices): Between Low and Average
Golds: Between Low and Average
Platinums: About $10 dollars short of the High Mark
VVSS: About $20 beyond the High Mark
Price Variant Newsstands: Short of the Low Mark
Non Price Variant Newsstands (87 Unique Issues): Short of the Low Mark
TPB's: Between Average and High
Reds & Pinks: Between Low and Average

Total: Just above the total predicted average of $3,864

Sorry for the long and potentially boring post, hoping someone finds in enlightening :? 8-) :thumb:

I think I missed this analysis in January, so I'm glad you highlighted it again and compared it with your results.

I'm impressed that you were able to make $4,000+ on a "fire sale" of the books.
I assume that Bloodshot 0 Platinum was the largest single item, what was the price?
What would be the Top 5 single items (if they can be broken out)?

I think he had it listed at $1,600. (if I remember)

Funny. I was a purchaser of two of those 'expensive' books. Strange - but I'm feeling competitive with a few people - especially over those SUPER-scarce books.

In addition - I'm SO close to being finished - I'm almost getting willing to pay crazier amounts for those last books - just to check off that list.
Hey, look! I have a podcast!
And a Website!

If I win an argument, it doesn't mean I'm right. It means I'm a better arguer.

In addition, I'm right.

I think that's a superb total sales amount you achieved!

I never bothered to add up the total on my full set liquidation that took place between 1-2 years ago, most of which was done here on the boards.

Do you think you'll re-acquire any or all of the books sometime down the road?
:hm:

Not sure there are really any surprises here, although there were definately some deals to be had. One day I will likely collect again and I still enjoy reading the back and forth on the board (as long as it remains free, lol). Since I had just finished reading a "reader set" and due to some financial pressure, I couldn't justify prioritizing the books over other obligations. Top sales are below . . .

Bloodshot Platinum - $1,600
EW 27 VVSS - $300
Unity Diamond TPB #2 - $175
Unity Diamond TPB #1 - $140
Valiant Voices 1-19 - $125
Timewalker VVSS - $ 110
PSI Lords VVSS - $95
Geomancer VVSS - $80
CEAR - $75
Predator Magnus TPB - $70

One thing to note if you didn't follow the for sale, my prices could have been lower than expected and def weren't auction style. Some prices likely would have been higher on ebay. I figured between ebay fees, paypal fees, and the hassle of potentially dealing with people outside the board . . . . it was worth splitting it up here.
