Got a couple new Valiant Binds back from Houchen. The lines actually match-up on the new ones (Harbinger & Archer) I am just holding them at a slight angle.

Personally, I think they do much better work than LBC did. I got a few binds from LBC that I thought were just sloppy as you can see in the Magnus LBC did there are wrinkles in the spine. I've gotten 9 binds through Houchen and they have all been pretty perfect.

Your books look good. I am glad to hear you think Houchen does better work. I felt the few books I sent to LBC were not up to snuff.

Got my H.A.R.D Corps 1-30 bound book back from Wallaceburg Bindery in Ontario. My friend actually drove to the bindery and back as by not shipping his order (44 books in all) he saved himself a couple hundred bucks.

Regardless, they do not oversew at all/ the binding is done by glue.
At first I was leery of it but, it feels sturdier than most anything done by LBC.

15 dollars included Head/Tail bands and the Ribbon Marker, so the price was right.

The thing I noticed that I liked the most, the lack of sewing meant that there was not as much gutter loss.
Image
Yes I used a gold cover
Image
Probably my favorite two page spread in the whole book

A later 2 page spread with very little gutter loss.

All in all Im pretty pleased with this bindery.

My favorite part of the whole thing was my friends interaction with customs.

When he declared the books, they freaked out and told him he should learn how to do that himself.
My reaction was, did some Customs agent just tell you that going to law school was a waste and you should have got into book binding?

Not Valiant related, but I thought I'd share this awesome drawing Bob created in my Iron Man: Demon in a Bottle hardcover!

Herring & Robinson

Post by dholden007 »

I got some of my Valiant books (and Acclaim) back from Herring & Robinson bindery. I really like the way the Valiant logo, radioactive symbol and the Shadowman dies came out. Very sharp! These dies are with the bindery, if anyone wants to use 'em. I will ask Joel to make a Harbinger die shortly.

I really recommend H&R. They do a great job, are very detailed and thorough. I already had over 75 books done with them. Its really a great deal. As sad as I was when LBC closed, down, I must admit... H&R is much much better and better prices also

Will post more pics shortly.
<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... liants.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... liants.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... t=HR12.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... 7/HR12.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here are just a few of my non-Valiant books with H&R.

<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... MsTree.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... MsTree.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The Superman die came out great as well.
<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... t=HR11.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... 7/HR11.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... nt=HR9.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... 07/HR9.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... =HR3-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... /HR3-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The 2 books on the right: BlackHood and New Warriors Book I was done at Houchen. I was very disspointed with them (they didnt mact the 3 NW books). The rest was H&R, that's imitation leather on the army of darkness books.
<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... =HR2-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... /HR2-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Top shelf is H&R. The second shelf (Pulse, Phantom etc ) is from LBC.
<a href="http://s897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... nt=HR5.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac17 ... 07/HR5.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

More pics coming shortly

Wow, those binds from Herring & Robinson look fantastic. I sent off my Rai and X-O to Houchen to be bound a few months back and was pleased with their work. But I love those fonts from H&R. I may need to send some binds their way soon.

Definitely. There is no extra charge for the font size (or any panel/head/tail lines). Its like getting handset font for free. Each bind is $17.50 or 19.50 with the die stamp. That's cheaper than Houchen (they still charge $1.65 per line?)... and much much better. If interested call them and speak with Joel 415-468-0440

Moonchild, Thanks again for all those extras, they are awesome. Used them all in Quantum & Woody and Bloodshot as well. They came out great. I'll post pics tomorrow.
