Convention signings

Post by Heath »

I haven't been to a major convention since Dragon*Con 1996. I plan on attending the Wizard World convention in New Orleans next month. How are celebrity signings handled by them? Do you have to pay extra? Do you have to get tickets for specific signings? Are signing times posted? I really want to get Ray Park, Billy Dee Williams, Claudia Christian, and Walter Koenig signatures. Adam West and Burt Ward would be awesome too.

The small regional convention I've gone to the last couple of years required paying the celebrity directly, around $20, for each signature. But they were very small, with only one or two big names there, so that might have been a different financial arrangement between the convention organizer and the talent as compared to the big conventions. I just want to be prepared.

I want to say that that is how it was at Wizard World TX a couple of years ago.

That kind of sucks because I don't plan on paying extra for signatures. But if that's the case, at least it will lighten the load of what I have to pack with me.

Most of the comic-book creators will sign for free or with a purchase, but most of the celebrities charge per autograph. Even with the charge, folks like Adam West and Burt Ward tend to have huge lines, so I see why they have to control the supply and demand like that. Other celebs don't necessarily have the lines, but charging is how they make it cost-effective.
