Playing Metroid: The Other M. Visually one of the best looking Wii games to date. This time around they went old school and brought back most of what made Super Metroid so fun to play on the SNES. It did take awhile to get used to the third person view, but it works well once you get the hang of it.

The game play is almost flawless and the cinematic cuts are excellent. The main story is decent except for the way Samus is being portrayed in this version. It's actually a bit insulting to the character (and bizarre at times). Still not enough to take much away from the game though and I highly recommend it.

Just finished Call of Duty: Black Ops... good story.

Am now hooked on Zombie Mode so I will be fighting through that, hopefully Zombie Mode Multiplayer now that finishing the game opened that up.

Just picked up Army of Two: 40 Days for a tenner. Not played the first game or this yet but a mate said it'd be good for co-op mode so worth picking up cheap before crimbo... until I get Battlefield BC2.

I'm too busy right now to play many games, but the last one I played was called Shape Shifter. It's basically an old school memory and recognitio game, with a few twists. Another great time killer, which is why I have had to leave it alone the last week or so.

Just finished Alien Breed Resurrection 2 & 3. Both were released within weeks of one another. Love the XBLA games. A lot of times you can grab decent titles for $5-$10 or less.

Got Splosion Man for 400 MS points. Should have tried the demo. Didn't like it all that much. Eh, OK.

Definitely got Pinball FX2 when it came out. They recently released four or five tables with Marvel super hero characters. The Spidey table is a lot of fun.

Chris,

Yes, I got Splosion Man during the Black Friday sale. So, I probably got it at the price you quoted. It was dirt cheap that much I know.

Those Marvel tables are a blast. Just good mindless fun.

I had A LOT of fun with them last night. I am not really sure how to get to the 4 missions per table but I will get there. Each table is not really that expensive either. Well you HAD to buy the Marvel bundle but other tables ("Earth Defense Force" or something like that is looking good) can be purchased for only 200 MS Points. You can build up your collection however slowly or quickly you want.

The next table I think will be Captain America... that will rock.

New games ?

Wellllll... my wife bought Castlevania Lords of Shadow for me last night as it was our 10 year Wedding Anniversary.

And Splinter Cell: Conviction showed up in the mail today from my Best Buy Black Friday purchases... eh it was cheap at $15.99 or $16.99. Only Splinter Cell game I ever played was one on the Xbox that a very cool board member sent to me when I first bought my Xbox (dating myself as I picked up my first Xbox (for my wedding anniversary from my wife) three weeks BEFORE the Xbox 360 came out !!!)

Thanks for noticing... nobody noticed my 12,000th post either. Not that I made a big deal out of it with a post but it crept up on me and ended up surprising me 6 posts after the fact.

Oh not trying to be... most of my posts are of no consequence and just take up space on the boards with no value added.

My other half picked me up a copy of Dark Cloud for the PS2 the other day and I have made a start on it.

Basic plot is that your village has been destroyed by a guy controlling an evil genie an the king of the fairies has sealed the peices to save everyone. You have to go through a large dungeon to retrieve the people and the pieces of your village and rebuild it. Gameplay is pretty much like a Zelda-style RT RPG set in a light roguish dungeon (I am not sure how many floors the dungeon has or if there are more dungeons as you progress). You have to keep popping out of the dungeon as you collect pieces of the village and rebuild it as you go as you trigger events as you rebuild that allow you to progress in the dungeon. Every time you make it to the next floor of the dungeon you are given the option to leave and are able to return to the new floor when you come back to it.

So far the plot has been pretty simple and I have unlocked an ally. Each new ally has a specific ability. The main character can retrieve village pieces. The first ally, an anthro cat girl called Xiao is more agile so can hop across rocks in rivers that block your way. I hate the character but as she has a ranged weapon she is often more useful than the main guy.

As you progress, you also pick up new weapons. Weapons have HP that decreases as they are used until they eventually break. You can repair them using repair powder. Also as you use them they absorb energy points from the enemies you kill with them. When you fill the Absorbtion guage you can upgrade the weapon which makes it stronger. You can also add gems to each weapon that imbue it with different abilities. If there are gems attached when you upgrade they are absorbed and the abilities are added to the weapon permanently. At certain points when the weapons reach full power you can change them into synt spheres which you can add to another weapon in the same way as the gems and the host weapon gains all the abilities of the previous weapon as well as all its own abilities. Simple system. I like it.

It is easy to see why this game has such a cult following as it is simple but the gameplay is immersive and fun. There is enough going on that the (seemingly, so far) lack of storyline doesn't really matter. I look forward to carrying on with this one.
