Tri-Valley Toy, Comic Book and Collectible Show
4501 Pleasanton Avenue,
Pleasanton, CA 94566

Early Bird entry (8 AM - 10 AM): $10 Admission
General Admission (10:01 AM - 4 PM): $3 Adults and $1 Children under 12
Fairground parking $8

Hopefully I can find some free parking nearby and avoid the $8 parking. I've never been to this show so I don't really know what to expect. C Andrew Nelson (Darth Vader in newer Star Wars movies and games) is scheduled to appear. Also appearing is Kathy Garver who voiced Firestar in Spiderman and his Amazing Friends.

I went to this local con yesterday. The number of vendors is a real disappointment. Also not many people attended - I am guessing that only 50-75 people attending throughout the entire day. The convention has enough room for 50-75 tables but it only has about 15 sellers. Of that, only 3 sold comics. Of the 3 comic sellers, one is totally unrealistic with his prices. He has books that are normally $1 or less marked at cover price or more. He has some trades and are giving only a 25% discount off cover. These trades are the ones I see at bigger cons at 50% off.

With so few comic sellers, I spent most of my time with the other 2 sellers. One seller had $0.50 comics in 8 long boxes and the other had 3/$1 comics in about 30 long boxes. The $0.50 seller ended up giving me 3/$1 after I pulled about 60 comics. All together I spent $35 on 100+ comics. I picked up some titles that I don't own. I got some Preacher (15+ issues), Promothea (8 issues), Lucifer (30+ issues), some random Infinity War and Crusade tie-ins. I also picked up some pre-Unity Valiants for 3/$1 - A&A #0s, X-O #5-6, Magnus 10-14?, SM #2-3, Harbinger #5-6 (with coupons), 7.

When I was digging through the boxes, a guy wanted to sell a copy of Uncanny X-Men #7 from the 60s and wanted to see how much he could get for it. He offered it to the dealer who took it out of the sleeve and noticed that the back cover has a rip and has been folded over. The X-Men seller said he has had the book for 20+ years. He said he was in a hurry that morning and was careless when he stuffed it into the sleeve. The dealer offered him $30 and the X-Men owner took the first offer. Even with the rip and fold, I would think it's worth more than that.

Also C Andrew Nelson was there and I bought an autographed pic from him (he was raising money for a charity). He was pretty bored the whole day and was probably talking more to nearby dealers since there were so few attendees.

Nice --- you always have to like Pre-unities @ 3/$1 :thumb:

Yup, even if they're the less desirable pre-Unities. It's just wrong not to get them at 3/$1. The hoard is growing.

I guess the clue that it wasn't going to be the best show for comics was the fact that toys were given top billing. At least it sounds like you made the best of it! :thumb:
