Post by tonysamos1 »

I was planning to send in some Valiant books to be graded next month and asked if PGX they had any specials. He asked if I had any ideas and I said how about something with Valiant books. Below is the reply I received...

Here is the special.

Valiant.com forum member special!

Send in your treasured Valiant's to PGX for grading and received 20% discount off the 1st 15 books.
This special is only good on Valiant books and is being extended exclusively to Valiant.com forum members.
Offer is good through May 31, 2005
Please note Valiant special on the submission form.

Daniel Patterson (PGX)
If you have any questions about this offer feel free to call us or contact through pgxcomics.com

How does that sound?

Hope this saves some of you some money,
Sami

WTF? Daniel offers us a discount if you wish to use his services and you spit on the deal? :!: This makes me sick! Take your blind allegiance to a company who overcharges you and makes you wait 4 months to return your graded books and I'll take mine to whoever gives me the best deal in the least amount of time. Last I checked, it was the american way.

Jebsus, I'm so ashamed you guys even went there. :|

Sorry, Whet, my books aren't getting anywhere near Oregon or Daniel. Ever. :-(

I'll wait the extra time and get back a product that sells for MORE than a raw book in the same grade.

Whet you can take that attitude and shove it up your *SQUEE*...WTF is your problem recently...You know that I have been nothing but fair to CGG in the past...It seems that everything makes you sick now...or you are ashamed of something...if you dont like it go bother people on your own *SQUEE* board....worry about which hot comics to invest in and how to keep noobs out...Dont tell me how to think about anything...

My problem with this is. 1 I dont know this guy that posted this...it also seems kinda funny timing...if PGX wants to offer us a deal he should come on here as a spokesperson for PGX and offer me the deal...This seems shady to me...I call em like I see em...THAT is the American way...

This could have been a great publicity move for PGX and now it is this...

Well, I don't want to get into the debate on whether his company and/or service are any good or not, but 20% off is a nice gesture if someone would like to use Dan's service, so for anyone who does it is a pretty good offer.

I think peoples personal opinions on this matter are really uncalled for, the gentleman made an offer to the valiantcomics.com community, if some decline to take him up on it, that's fine, leave it at that.

I dont know this person that made the offer...If Daniel or PGX wants to make us an offer let them come on here and do it the right way...Daniel has a login for this board and has posted before if I am not mistaken...If he wants us to know about something, then he should come and tell us...dont send someone that I dont know to come and tell us about it...

Hey, it's starting to look like another Bob Layton prank. :o

I would like to see the honcho make this offer in person, 2postbob could be BSing us, no one seems to know this person. If it's real, it is a nice gesture, if not a well presented one. I guess since I'm not selling any HG big items soon, I really don't have a dog in the fight, but I would like to see more about the archival nature of the CGC and PGX holders. :thumb:

DawgPhan, do you really want to know me?

First off, I made the gesture of a discount to PGX. I have used them before wihout incedent. It seems they do grade stricter on modern age books then CGC (I have also used them before). I have some high end Valiants sitting unprotected, I am disabled with a very limited income... so 20% off an already low price to protect some high end Valiants seems like a no brainer.

DawgPhan... I have been a member of this site for quite sometime, my collection is listed under Hoxha on the online collector inventory, and even though I am on a fixed income... I have made a donation to this site.

Well I think that there are questions about both of their holders...The inner well of the PGX holder might be made of less than archival plastic(well no plastics are actually archival...mylar is not a plastic) but the CGC holder is subject to shaken comic syndrome where the comic in slab becomes damaged after being slabbed. The damage is explicitly caused by the slab itself. Neither seem to be 100% safe for your comics...

Obviously my recent posts have been *SQUEE* you off and you’ve been holding back until now. That was more of a general response and I’m sorry you took it so personal. However, you are the second person who has told me about my “problem recently”. The first time you take in stride but the second time you have to do some personal digging. I can’t recall anything off hand that has made me angry but subconsciously it must be there somewhere. I’ll investigate.

"or you are ashamed of something"

Don’t think so.

"if you dont like it go bother people on your own *SKREE* board....worry about which hot comics to invest in and how to keep noobs out."

Odd, now you’re trying to MAKE me ashamed. I don’t understand why collectors shy away from the topic of value. Some of us like to talk about the value a particular book holds or has the potential of holding. It’s just another part of collecting that we enjoy. Just like others like to only buy cheap books. Does this bother you? I don’t get it.

I originally thought the thread was just another pgx bashing topic. Apparently the real issue was the validity of the poster himself/herself. Looks like I jumped to conclusions. Glad this could all be cleared up in pm instead of an open forum, oh wait..

I believe that the newest CGC holder takes care of the SCS problem.

So the other 500,000 comics that are in the old holder are still in danger?

Stuff like the Super HG SA books...9.6 FF 1's and AF 15's..

Also I think that staple pulls are the new concern with these books..if they happen to move since the cover is being pinched..

I want to mention that during my lunch break, through an extremely emotional male bonding session that included crying and hugging, DawgPhan and I discovered that the root to my hostility comes from the vcvss projects and the members who left because of it. So in order to conquer my anger issues I have hired Peter Parker to counsel me on level headedness, calm thinking before I post and respect for other members (especially liberals). :thumb:

So my first act as the new whetteon is to publicly forgive all noobies and their noobie ways. In order to capture the moment I’m issuing vcvss certificates that state, “I’m a noobie and I was forgiven by whetteon just this once”. They are limited to 50 copies and available to the first 50 noobies who reply to this message. Sure to be a collectors item that will only increase in value!!! 8-)

Oh, and to stay on topic, PGX is an alternative to CGC or something...

(um, I was just joking about the whole vcvvs project and the Peter Parker bit but the hugging was real! at the very least I got a new signautre out of it. :P )
