Character Completists?

Post by xodacia81 »

How many of us here collect "characters" more than books? Say that you follow Wolverine, Spiderman, Green Lantern, Batman, ect...

Do you just follow the main title/s or do you also pick up every "appearance" they make in other books, as well?

I was collecting Blade and Morbius appearances for a while, nowhere near complete, but quite a few of the earlier appearances.

Blade is a cool character. Never heard of the other one, though. How far back does your collection of Blade appearances go?

Not strictly "character"but if it is labelled Justice League or some variation of, then I am there.

So, does Generation Lost stink on ice as badly as I'm hearing that it does?

Read the first four issues or so and enjoyed it. It isn't as good as the Giffen/DeMatteis stuff on International but it also isn't as bad as the recent Justice League of America title has been.

Two of my favorite writers (except for what Giffen did with Punx and to Magnus), so I might have to give it a shot, although I'll probably wait for the collected edition/s.

I've got a decent copy of Tomb of Dracula #10 and the other early TOD appearances.

Here's a favorite, both Blade and Morbius:

Marvel's "New Warriors." As a kid, I had the first volume from issue 1 up to 25 (my only mail subscription I ever had). I lost my original collection and about two years ago, bought a lot of the entire first volume. Then, I got volumes 2-4, bought a water-damaged set of Nova vol. 1, Nova vol.2, 3, and the most recent Nova series :) I have most of Night Thrasher's title, but still missing about a third of it. I also found Speedball's 10 issue series for 0.25 a book about 4 months ago.

Lately, i've been picking up any tie-in issues if I happen across them for dirt cheap (Speedball's first appearance in an ASM annual the most recent find :))

I love these characters and while many of the later stories have been sub-standard, i've always connected with their "2nd rate" status as a team, and the initial run by Mark Bagley and Fabien Nicieza is just SO well done :) Makes it all worth it :)

Master of Kung fu and im doing pretty good apart from the magazine stuff, which i havent actually started yet.

Also Nightcrawler (who will no doubt get resurrected alongside banshee (fingers crossed) in the latest X-men crossover).
Im not fussed about X-books and Excelibur etc, more appearances elsewhere.

Power Man & Iron Fist in every thing they ever appeared in.

I don't get so into characters. I tend to follow the writer and artist. If they produce good work, then I will want to see more of it regardless of what character or titile they are applying their talents to.

I do it for only Invincible because so far, it's manageable.

To do that for a main Marvel or DC guy would be nuts. Hulk? Holy crap.

I'm considering doing it in "limited" ways with Green Lantern and Green Arrow. Start by collecting the main series/oneshots/minis, then the other appearnces when you can.

I was a huge fan of Superman from age 2 to ... uh... maybe 15.

It was at age 15 that I realized I could never own all the important appearances of Superman.

So, I set my sights a little lower, and I have collected (to the best of my knowledge)
all the appearances of blond Superman.

I do Green Arrow as well, but so far im just about finished with all the Grell/Dixon run, well got all up to 100, then a few gaps up to 137.
Got some of the lovely appearance written by Alan Moore in back up stoies in Detective comics, storming art by Janson when he was also kicking much butt on DD.

Yep, he sure was and, to Draco, didn't know about the Moore stuff. I'll try to hunt those down. Which issues were they?

Im not going back further than the 70's and so the Kirby stuff isnt on the list for individuals, but they did a nice prestige of his bits anyway thankfully :thumb:
