Philly comic show

I talked about this in another thread, but figured I'd start a new one so as not to derail it any further.

Went to the local Philly small show today. Not one of the better shows I attended. There were quite a few with cheap bins, but not really much that I had interest in. Best deals were Amazing Spidey #410 (Carnage cover) and #430 (Carnage/Surfer) for $1 each and Punisher 2099 and Ravage 2099 last issues also for a $1 each. Valiant-wise, I picked up a Rai #9 VVSS for $1.

Worst deal of the day was probably the $1 a book I paid to complete my Micronauts sets. Would have preferred to have paid .50 a book or less, but I REALLY wanted to finish reading these. At least most of the books were in pretty high grade shape, despite the fact they weren't bagged.

Had a funny moment with Michael Carbonaro of Neat Stuff Collectibles. I saw a box of unbagged books on a table along with a bunch of other stuff that looked like junk, so I assumed the box was probably a bargain box. I went through the entire thing and picked out two books, a Gambit #1 Gold, and the Incredible Hulk and Wolverine reprint book with the Byrne cover. I asked the guy watching the table how much they were and he said "I think they are $1 each, but I have to ask". He tried for about a minute to unsuccessfully get "Mike" to come over, so he told me to take the books over to where "Mike" was (at another dealer's table) and ask him how much. I got his attention and then realized it was Carbonaro and that I was dealing with Neat Stuff. He tells me I can have both books for $20 total. I decline, Mike heads back to his table, roots through the box I found the books at, so I handed him the books back and proceeded on my way. He then tried repeatedly to offer me successive lower prices for the Hulk and Wolverine book, finally getting frustrated because I kept saying no and asked me how much I wanted to pay. I just said "Thanks, anyway" and walked away.

If you want guide price or more for books at a show, you could at least bag, board and price the things instead of having the customer root out one of the few gems and then try to charge the moon after the customer did all the work.

found quite a few Turtles, not sure how cheap they were, one Albedo issue, but it was not Vol. 1. No Liberty Meadows.

Bunch of those huckster guys that sell bootleg DVD's, but again, I totally ignore them.

so you were the one who got the Punisher 2099 #34! Some other guy and I were looking for it in that guy's bins who had near complete runs of all the 2099 books.

yep, there was also a Spidey 2099 last issue, which I passed on. Really was hoping he had the Ghost Rider 2099 last issue, but I didn't see it. Slim pickings for anything really good, though.

he had GR2099 #25 but it wasn't where it should have been in the order of things. i picked that one up ... and the last spidey2099, too.

that rounds out my Ghost Rider 2099 set!

I think the very last 2099 book i need now is Punisher 2099 #34.
