Looking forward to the next issue a little more, this one was a little slow. Kaboomerang looks cool!400yrs wrote:Guardians of the Globe #1 - I liked this.
I thought the extra bits were cool.
If you are an Invincible fan, you will probably like it. I think it's the best of the Invincible spin-offs (which have been mediocre in the past). I don't know who Ransom Getty is, but his art is pretty damn good.

Amazing Spider-Man Annual 21 - good stuff
X-Men Origins Deadpool - Duane Sw...... whatever his last name is..... I like this writer.
Viking 1-5 - Very beautiful art panel by panel. Sequentially, it's a mess as are the plot and words.
Stuff of Legend something or other - bleh.
Going to jump back into Preacher with Vol 6.

Some Image goodness:
Morning Glories #2, The Walking Dead #76, Chew #13, Four Eyes #4
Good, very good, damn near great, great.
Four Eyes #4 took over a year to come out and I didn't do any re-reading, but this issue was still awesome. I'd recommend checking out the trade which should be out in a few months covering 1-4. I'm looking forward to Act 2 whenever that happens.

Batman: The Killing Joke
This was good, but didn't live up to the hype it receives. I've heard people refer to this as "the defining Joker story". I don't agree with that. In fact, the most important (and only important) thing that happened in this one was the paralization.
The last bunch of pages were not very Joker like at all.

finishing out my Micronauts run, I need a few issues to fill out my run, anyone have issues #52-58 available on the cheap?
Anyway, storywise, still a pretty good book, that's a great thing about having the same writer for the entire series. The art, on the other hand, is downright putrid. I know a lot of people like his work, but I am NOT a fan of Gil Kane.

when it came out it was cutting edge...comics have gotten much edgier since that time so it doesn't quite have the snap that it did originally (IMO)400yrs wrote:Batman: The Killing Joke

Having read it when it came out, it was far and away the best Joker story to that date and it still holds that place for me. In context, prior to Killing Joke, the Joker was more of a nasty clown that killed a henchman or two but was a very watered down villain (more like the '60s TV series character and comic relief than the current psychopath).400yrs wrote:Very true. Besides Miller's Joker from Dark Knight, this was the first time since the early 1940's the Joker was portrayed as willing to kill or harm anyone at anytime. Moore totally did away with the disturbed thief with a clown fixation and made J. the monster he is now. The end of the story where Bats and J are sharing a "moment" was a great in-road to the idea that the two are linked in someway beyond good guy v. bad guy and made it far more about both characters being integral to each other personalities (again, drawing off F.M.'s DK.)
And the Bolland art . . .

I get what you are saying. To me though, on the last few pages where they are having the heart to heart and the Joker says, "No, I'm sorry, it's too late for me." I just can't see the Joker apologizing. Then again, I can't say I've read that many Joker stories.X-O HoboJoe wrote: Besides Miller's Joker from Dark Knight, this was the first time since the early 1940's the Joker was portrayed as willing to kill or harm anyone at anytime. I've read through Vol 7 of Preacher. I have 8 and 9 to go.
I'm sure it will pick up, but over the last bunch of trades, this book really seems to have veered off the road. The focus went from Genesis, the Grail and finding God to the relationship between Jesse / Tulip / Cass. I liked the first part more...... and that's strange for me because I usually like the character stuff more.
I'm looking forward to being done with this to be able to move on to Bone.

I'm working my way through Ultimate X-men. I am just starting the 40s. so far I like it.
There has been a good mix of action and story. I think there could be a more backstory and build up. But overall a enjoyable read. Right now I am in the New Mutants arc.
I just read the issue where Wolvie has to kill the kid that is vaporizing everyone. It was a bit obvious, but still a good example of the power of the medium. The art and tone go well with the story.
I have the complete run, so I'm hoping that it holds up until the end. And this is, by far, the most Marvel I have read in a row.
Pretty good. (I'm wondering when The White Queen is coming)

It came off as a rare moment of lucidity in the Joker to me. Think I'll go back and read it to see if it's held up . . . I was so blown away back in the day that my recollection is def. colored rosie.400yrs wrote:I get what you are saying. Loved Preacher and wish it had stayed as strong and as it started . . . but how can you top lines like "Well if it isn't country-Joe mother- *SQUEE* and his dick cheese posse?" Don't want to give any story away so I'll just admit to being slightly disappointed with the end. Not like LOST-disappointed but that same vein of having wanted more from the last arc.400yrs wrote:I've read through Vol 7 of Preacher. I have 8 and 9 to go.

You know, I really liked that book. Alot of people didn't like it, but I thought it was some of the better X-men stuff that I've read. Robert Kirkman writes some of the later issues and he does some things that *SQUEE* off some readers, but I liked it.Elveen wrote:I'm working my way through Ultimate X-men. I'm about half way through Vol 7. Seems like Ennis must have been reading Strangers in Paradise with this one.X-O HoboJoe wrote:Loved Preacher and wish it had stayed as strong and as it started . . . but how can you top lines like "Well if it isn't country-Joe mother- *SQUEE* and his dick cheese posse?" My prob so far is that it seems to have lost its way. We'll see, but I can see being disappointed with the ending if certain things aren't wrapped up.

Picked up and read Pride of Baghdad by Brian K Vaughan and Niko Henrichon. It's a short but powerful story and I'm sure it's not one that everyoner here would like. The art is truly awesome too. I can't recommend this highly enough.
BKV is becoming one of my favourite writers. I just wish I could finnish my run of Y!
