I hope to get a look at the books sometime in the next couple days. I should know what to do after looking at a box or two.

good luck with that...I'd do it in a heartbeat provided they weren't all waterdamaged, lacking boards and bags, crushed from poor storage, all foxed out, etc...

I guess things are different here than there then.
I put $40 cos we get £30-40.
Sure we list the contents, but if a whole box of comics wont sell for $40 over your side then maybe it isnt a good idea to buy them.

Okay so I haven't made it to see the books but a handful of them came to see me. My wife brought home a small stack of books from one of the boxes. Bagged and boarded and in very nice shape were a few misc. issues of Darkhawk (just the kind of filler I would have expected).

Also they counted the boxes and it's a much smaller number than 300. There are 54 long boxes and 18 short boxes. I still want to pick them up but the price I have in mind is about $350 for the lot.

You put a lot of effort into your store as well and know how to turn a profit... I mean you have great sales very often and your price in your books is well within... well at least my range (NOT that I won't try to haggle).

$350 for that many is dirt cheap! if you can get it ... good for you.

buuuuuuuuut, that price is under your 3 cents a book price that you thought you could get the larger lot for.

It is. I may go up a bit ($400) and see if that gets the deal done. I'll be making the offer tomorrow, so we shall see. I really just want to have the fun of digging through all the comics, but I'm sure it's going to be so much crap. Just for fun I checked Darkhawk on ebay and they are worthless, someone had a 49 of the 50 issues published and the bid was under $2. Still I need a few of those for my collection.

It's a disease. I don't really want them but I feel if I don't have a book in my collection then I should. My fear is that I'll buy 60 long boxes of crap and keep most of it. Right now my collection is about 45 long boxes, and I can see myself adding 20 out of these 60. Scary.

Thanks for the offer but it wouldn't be worth your time.

So I did it. For $500 I purchased around 70 long boxes of books including a good amount of still sealed hardcovers. at first glance there is a ton of crap but I've found some cool stuff as well. Best find so far are copies of tmnt #1 and cerebus #1 that I think might be conterfeit.

I was dragging boxes into the basement until midnight and I've got to go back and pick up the last twenty long boxes today. Then the fun begins.

Congrats on the treasure hunt! I've never heard anyone referring to acquiring counterfeit anything as their "best find".

All sounds cool to me.

I love it when people over estimate, 70 is so not 300, but lovely haul anyway.

got 'em all in the house now. I'll have to do an exact count but I just picked up the final 23 long boxes. Also just found a still sealed "The Complete Frank Miller Spider-Man" hardcover. It's the first version limited to 500 copies. Had a $100 price tag on the shrikwrap.

I know. It looks like the Cerebus is a fake for sure, I can still hold out hope for the TMNT. I believe the fakes still go for a bit of money on the market.

I must say, my curiosity is piqued.

How much would you want for them?

Not sure. I think the best bet might be to have CGC grade the and verify the real vs. counterfeit ?. I would hate to sell either thinking they were counterfeit and have them turn out to be the real deal (or the other way around).

So far in the 6 boxes I've looked through I've found a few cool items.

About 1 long box of crap that I'll add to my collection
4 sealed Alpha & Omega tpb's
5 copies of Harbinger 41
3 copies of Thunderstrike #23 and 2 # 24's
issues 1-3 of the orignal Groo series
Killing Joke 1st print

I'm sure I'm missing a few cool items but that's it so far. Lots of copies of crappy books. But you never know when one of those crappy books sells for some $$$. Gotta check against ebay to make sure.

I'll try and get some pics up tomorrow.

Very messy at the moment, I'm going to try and get them a bit more organized. 2/3 of the boxes are bagged/boared in order but the other 1/3 are a mess.
