"Do the Dark Horse Gold Key comics meet the hype?"
Hey guys, I was just thinking about if these new "Dark Key" books are meeting the expectations you all had.
I don't know if I am off base here, but it feels like many of us (myself included) tend to put Jim Shooter's work on a pedestal and was just curious if you are so far disappointed as a whole, or excited.
This is my first poll, so hopefully I do this right!

I voted for this one because none of the options really fit me. I liked Magnus and thought Solar was terrible enough to wreck the whole line considering it was people's first experience with Dark Key.Not real happy. If these don't improve, back to Wolverine and Spider-Man I go.
Magnus, I'll probably be getting for awhile.
Solar, if there's not a quick turn around, say by issue #4 (which is 2 issues of the new artist), that's an easy dump for me.
I'd like to support Shooter no matter what, but tight cash means I've got to make sure I'm getting good entertainment for my money.

That is where I am as well. I'd say that I am mildly disappointed thus far, but still excited about what lies ahead.Daniel Jackson wrote:Personally, I think it's a little too early to tell. I was not blown away by the first issue of Solar, but I'm willing to give Jim a chance to build up to something. I'm still waiting on my copy of Magnus to arrive, so I can't comment on it yet.
Solar was on the cover to Previews man! That whole issue was crammed so full of hype it seemed like a Wizard issue filled with 90s Valiant news. To me at least!depluto wrote:I think they met the hype since there really wasn't that much hype, was there?
Not the best comics I've ever read but I'll give them time.

I don't really agree with any of these assessments. I thought Magnus was great fun and Solar was a bit stale and had awful art. I'm still in for both but I won't support them no matter what. Solar has until the end of the arc to show a little improvement at least. Magnus I see myself sticking with. Turok seems interesting too.

Really? I thought that the new artist started with #3?The Beyonder wrote:400yrs wrote:Roger Robinson starts with the next issue (#2). If the new artist starts at #2, they should have just scrapped #1 and started over with the new artist. Yeah, it was that bad.

I agree! And here's a sneak peek of the new art on Solar #2, right from Robinson's website!400yrs wrote:

I must have missed 'the hype'. I more or less always felt... "ok, Solar and Magnus are seeing print again and Jim Shooter is writing." Not much more than that. It was not until I read the issues that "I" felt any hype (again all IMO)... and now I am pretty damn excited about all of it.
Seeing the original art for Solar #2, I was NOT very excited but seeing the colored piece.... my, my what a difference. But I know from the past not to judge a book by its........ ART. Back when Valiant first started off, I laughed at it and really thought how 'this crap' could be so expensive but then I actually READ an issue and was totally surprised. IMO, it is the same right now, no matter the art, the STORYTELLING has it's hooks into me. A big thank you to Mr. Jim Shooter for making that 'magic' come back to comics and these characters again.
I didn't mind Solar #1s art at all, just fine. Having seen the colored art for Solar #2 (which ships on 25 August, 2010 everyone !!!), I have to admit that I am even more excited.
Right now... I'd say, I have the Madness !!!!
