Post by deweyscc »

Hey all,
I just wanted to pass along the information that Jim Shooter will be making an appearance at my store, Dewey's Comic City, in Madison, NJ on Saturday, September 11th, from 1 to 3 pm. He'll be promoting the new Dark Horse revivals of Dr. Solar and Magnus (and the soon to come Turok) titles. For more info and directions visit our website at www.deweyscomiccity.com

Hope you are nearby and can attend! Thanks!

Great with shops who help promote new comics.

hey how does this work? Does your shop have to actually pay for the creator to make an appearance? Do you have to pay airfare (maybe not in this case), for creators if they live outside of driving distance?

Just curious :D

Generally speaking, they don't usually pay for a creator appearance, but they do pay transportation, lodging, and meals.

If a creator is busy enough, sometimes they ask a store to have ordered a certain level of their comics (basically to justify taking the time off to do it instead of being at the computer or drawing board).

I'm sure there are some who get appearance fees, but the above holds true for most.

Hey jbtheo, I usually don't pay creators for appearing at our store. As another poster correctly commented, we always offer to pay for transportation and for any other possible expenses they may incur. There are some occasional exceptions to this but it's fairly rare. Most creators are happy to promote their work and truly enjoy meeting fans on a one to one basis. Jim was especially pleasant to work with and we're really looking forward to hosting him here. Thanks for asking.
