I would think Solar is harder to write than Magnus. How do you create stories of conflict where the main hero is essentially, likely, the most powerful being in the world? It's like the whole time you are writing stories of the character either learning his new powers, or restraining to use them.
Magnus is probably more fun to write--and it's very fun to read!

I agree, writing for a superhero with that kind of power would have to be very challenging.jbtheo wrote:I would think Solar is harder to write than Magnus. It seems to be a specialty of Shooter's, though.Daniel Jackson wrote:I agree, writing for a superhero with that kind of power would have to be very challenging.jbtheo wrote:I would think Solar is harder to write than Magnus. True, but after the greatness of his early Solar work at Valiant, it makes you wonder if even Shooter can make lightning strike twice with a character like this.StarBrand wrote:It seems to be a specialty of Shooter's, though.Daniel Jackson wrote:I agree, writing for a superhero with that kind of power would have to be very challenging.jbtheo wrote:I would think Solar is harder to write than Magnus. Yeah--it's kind of like you either write the character developing a God complex or a guilt complex. Solar would basically get to the point where he would snap his fingers and dispurse his opponent to nothingness, or he restrains himself and basically fights like a regular person and just uses "force blasts".
I guess that's the reason why I, and most of us I imagine, am going to continue pick up Solar every 6 weeks; to see how Jim Shooter tackles the character.

I'll give Jim a good solid chance to win me over. I'll pick up the first year at least, even if it's not a promising as his other work.

Yes, like a break-through kind of change, even though it's same artist as #2. It's like a light went off; I didn't dislike his stuff previously, but wow!Knightt wrote:An improvement over issue #1 or #2 ?
I didn't mind art in #1, so far from what I have seen of #2, I am a bit wary until I see it in print... pens/inks can be misleading.
